Rosalie Lightning
by Lauren on November 18, 2011 at 3:19 pmI am so sad to report that Rosalie Lightning, daughter of Tom Hart and Leela Corman, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep November 17th, 2011. There’s been such an outpouring of love and support for their family. We’ve started a paypal account in honor of her. This fund is to help with everything Tom and Leela are facing in this terrible situation. Just to be clear, this is not an ongoing charitable foundation; it is a bunch of Tom and Leela’s friends passing the cup around to help them surmount the short-term challenges arising from this tragedy. Update: Tom and Leela have requested that the paypal account be closed as of 11/27/2011. Please go here for more information.
Rosalie was a wonderful girl. She loved lizards, Miyazaki movies and duck ponds.
If you want any more information about where to send your condolences please email rosalielightningmemorial@gmail.com.
Tom and Leela asked me to thank everyone from the bottom of their hearts. “We feel every word, every thought, every intention, and please tell them that their help has enabled us to pay for our families – who don’t have much money – to fly here rapidly to be with us. And that it has helped us with all of the costs of this horrible experience. We are beyond grateful and we owe you many lifetimes of kindness and service. We hope that you will never experience anything remotely close, but please know that whatever help you need, we are with you too.”

This is such a tragedy. I have a daughter who is about a year older than Rosalie – I cannot imagine what Tom and Leela are going through. Tom & Leela you are in my thoughts. I am so sorry.
Utterly heartbreaking. I’m so sorry.
I’m so very sorry, :_(
My deepest sympathies go to Tom and Leela – thanks for doing this, Lauren.
I’m at a loss for words to say the least. I’m sending love and strength with my donation.
I want to make sure that all the money just goes to Leela and Tom, so they have money to live on, and don’t have to go back to work just to eat, so they have the luxury of grieving completely and fully.
Thank you for doing this!
There seems to be a glitch. I couldn’t complete the CC information.
This is just terrible news. My heart and my thoughts go out to them both. Such sweet people…this is a very sad day.
I’m devestated to hear this. And this was turning out to be such a good day. I’ve linked to this blog post from my own blog.
Thoughts and prayers are with the family. So very sorry. Rosalie will be with Tom, Leela and family and friends forever.
Lauren, so glad you set this up…. I wonder if Tom would be willing to have someone post the cartoons he did of life as a dad, as a memorial to Rosalie….
Thanks for everyone for passing along messages to Tom and Leela.
For Alia, you’re right, paypal does take 2.2% so if you want to send something to them directly email rosalielightningmemorial@gmail.com and we’ll give you the address.
If you log in through paypal and send money as a personal payment, they don’t collect fees.
They’ve been in my thoughts. I can’t even comprehend what they must be going through.
While I don’t know Tom or Leela, I’ve donated what I could. I can think of few things more awful than the unexpected death of a child. Thanks for being amazing friends. I hope this fund can help them in some small way.
We are so, so sad. Baby Rosalie truly will live with you (and us) forever. My mother lost a brother when she was a very small girl, and the strength of his memory was passed on to me, a lifetime later. Lots of love and tearful hugs from far away. xoxo
Thanks for setting this up. I’m so sad for them.
Horrible news. I don’t know them but, I hope my donation helps in some small way.
Lynn, I think that sounds like a wonderful idea.
Oh! Thanks for that, Mia. Good to know.
@Lynn @Lauren Tom told me he wants to move ahead with Daddy Lightning and finish it as a book for his originally intended deadline of March 2012. You may remember he asked me to “coach” him via his blog and he’s determined to keep doing that too.
totally understandable, Alia.
Mia, smart thinking! $ now sent to this email addy, but not through donate button–just logged in and sent as a gift–which is exactly what it is. Yay! Thanks, Lauren!
Thinking of you. Lots of love.
Nothing prepares you for the death of a child. I’m not a parent, I dont know Tom or Leela, but I send out my deepest condolences to them and their families, just as one person to another.
