Spend 10 minutes with Grey Damon, and you’ll know why he perfects the mysterious character he plays on The Secret Circle. Much like we can’t figure out if Lee LaBeque is coming from a dark place or has a heart of gold, it’s hard to tell if Grey himself has made his mind up — but he knows that he relates to the guy.
“Lee’s sort of a piece of me, you know?” he tells Wetpaint Entertainment in an exclusive interview.
“He reminds me of people I grew up around and he has little inklings of me, but I try to make him foreign to me at the same time, because he’s not exactly, right off the bat, someone I would like to be like,” he says. “But hopefully Lee will develop into somebody that I am in real life.”
So far we know him as pretty ruthless when it comes to helping Faye (Phoebe Tonkin) steal power from the Circle, so needless to say he throws us for a loop when he says to expect a “gushy and girly valentine,” from tonight’s episode.
“I think fans of the show will be surprised of what goes on with Lee,” he says. “There’s a few things when I read the script where I was like, ‘Whoa, I did not see that coming!’ with Lee and the other characters.”
Grey admits his character’s motivation is “what he can gain,” but says future episodes will delve into where he’s coming from.
“He’s not necessarily evil,” says Grey. “The guy has a checkered past, but he does have a heart. He’s not a complete bastard, and that will be revealed as it goes on. Right now, though, he’s a mystery.”
Expect to know much, much more by the time Grey finishes his run.
“I think we’ll get a real taste of what Lee is about and questions will definitely be answered within the next couple of episodes,” he hints.
The biggest question we have is how Lee or Faye could ever be perceived as gushy. It might prove to be the best use of magic so far!
