YAWPING—A PRIMER

I too am not a bit tamed, I too am untranslatable,
I sound my barbaric YAWP over the rooftops of the world.

Those words—written more than a century ago by the poet Walt Whitman—talk about the importance of passion. Not just passion—the full, undiluted expression of passion.

One hundred years down the road, we have an Internet teeming with blogs and websites—but, sad to say, far too few Yawps.

What’s the difference? What’s a Yawp and what can it do for you (or vice versa)?

A Yawp is whatever your particular passion means and wherever it may take you:

• The student immersed in a research project who wants to share (and, if need be, argue about) her findings with others in a daily blog.

• A businessperson or professional whose passion means dedication to service excellence and client response—traits that existing and prospective customers can discover through an engaging and provocative website.

• The retired person whose freedom from the constraints of the workaday world means greater time for reflection—and, in turn, a desire to express those thoughts in both words and images.

• The unemployed person or stay-at-home parent with a perspective to share--and a need for supplementary income.

There are countless more examples, but these show what a Yawp
truly is—passionate, yes, but also practical, personal and powerful on any number of levels.

What a Yawp is not is trendy. However ethereal Uncle Walt’s narrative may seem, a Yawp is not a poetic pet rock, pretty words with the staying power and substance of so many mood rings. It’s not just the latest thing.

Nor is a Yawp talk for talk’s sake. There’s already an ample supply of that—both on the Internet and elsewhere.

A Yawp is a passionate and practical expression of yourself, no matter what self you may be talking about—an eighth grader concerned about the potential extinction of the Indochinese Tiger or the plumbing contractor who knows just what it feels like to have a foot of water in your basement and is ready to help.

A Yawp is completely natural—an expression of you—but it also serves to set you apart. As they say, mere talk is cheap. A Yawp—one derived from and built to express passion—is priceless.

That’s what we do here at MyYawp.com. We offer the Internet as the venue for your Yawp—be it in the form of a blog or a website. Here, no matter what you bring to your Yawp, is the opportunity to blend your passion with practical results—be that income, changing others’ opinions or simply the joy of letting the rest of the world know how you feel about something which, to you, matters very dearly.

Yawping is real, powerful and eminently pragmatic—not to mention one heck of a lot of fun. It’s not just passion—it’s passion that works. And that’s because passion, does, in fact, work. Uncle Walt knew that a century ago—it’s time we reacquainted ourselves with that fact as well.

Got a better feel for what a Yawp is all about? Then let MyYawp.com start to take you step by step through this process—one that will prove deeply rewarding for all of us with a passion to share with others.

Are You YAWPING?
