Nell. Swedish. Nerd. Older than you. Challenge accepted? I like David Tennant. A lot. I also like other stuff and other people. I am weird and friendly. That will be all. currently: mostlyLinkylinks- follow fridays- What on earth is gif tennis?? - reblog tag index - colouring .psd downloads - giffing tutorials - blogroll - about me |
the gods know that david tennant is a very attractive man. it’s very difficult to argue against that, even if he isn’t your type. he’s tall and thin and wiry and that doesn’t suit everyone’s tastes, but he is a handsome man.
for a lot of people it stops there. to them he is, plainly, eye-candy.
for a large group of people he is also a fantastic actor. loved as the doctor and admired for his other work it is, again, difficult to argue against his abilities as both a comedic and dramatic actor. he is a truly remarkable actor who seems as comfortable as a ketchup bottle as he does as hamlet (and somehow manages to pull off both).
but there is more to david than his appearance and his acting skills, and I think that is why he has captured so many people’s hearts.
he is kind. I have not heard a single account of david meeting a fan where he has been anything less than courteous (if not always inviting, especially if the meeting happened in a place where he’s just being himself), and most of the time he is smiling, happy to take a picture, give an autograph and just generally be a pleasant person. he doesn’t have to do this, and lord knows it must happen to him all the time, but he does. he treats his fans with patience, with respect and with a smile on his face and that is certainly something to admire.
he also takes his time to learn the names of everyone around him - and that is something to admire in a person surrounded by so many people all the time.
he is smart. his intelligence shines through all the time, if you’re listening for it. his vocabulary really is staggering, and is an indication that he reads more than scripts. he uses words in casual conversation that most of us will never find an academic use for in our lifetime and he does it without missing a beat. this, of course, also shines through in his acting. he doesn’t just say the words of shakespeare - he thinks them and he feels them. watching a few interviews with him about this and you can’t avoid seeing it.
he is funny. not in a way where he tells jokes all the time, but in a completely unpretentious way where he makes the people around him laugh with him. how could someone who doesn’t know him possibly know this? watching doctor who confidential, hearing him on absolute radio, seeing him being interviewed by catherine tate… it’s obvious.
he is enthusiastic - unashamedly enthusiastic. I could just as easily have written here that he is a nerd - but enthusiastic just seems to fit him better. we often refer to him as a fanboy, because we know that he is, but really what it boils down to is that he gets ridiculously excited about things like seeing a dalek on set, or by silly jokes or by watching doctor who and reading shakespeare. the glimmer in his eyes when he talks about something he is passionate about is incredibly charming, and it’s impossibly infectious. his boyish giddyness spreads like ripples in a pond around him - it is incredibly endearing.
he is generous. he is an active patron of headway essex and actively supports other organisations in causes he thinks are worthy. I know a lot of celebrities do this sort of stuff, but it’s no less admirable for it. he gives of his time for a good cause and we admire him for that.
he is private. I’m not sure why I admire this about him so much, but I do. while still being so inviting and welcoming and kind, he still keeps his private life private. the fact that he has managed to do this even under the intense media attention he got during the doctor who years especially is impressive. he will speak so openly about many things, but there is always a clear division between personal and private which he just doesn’t cross. he has poise and I respect the shit out of him for that. pardon my french.
… there is more to him — this is just those things that I admire most about him — but if you reblog I’d love to see you add things. :)
