What Makes This Blog Different?

I started this blog to fill an important niche that I felt was empty: there are tons of parenting blogs out there, but very few that focus on teaching you to be a better parent.

I want to provide you with concrete tips and advice, stimulating you to improve as a parent.

As well, I want to give you a father’s point of view, something that few parenting blogs offer.

My Goals for You: Happy Parent, Happy Baby

What’s This Blog’s Philosophy?

I believe that our babies know best. They know exactly what they want, and they’re very good at communicating these needs to us, as long as we learn to listen to them.

There’s no one set of rules that apply in every situation. You won’t find a list of commandments on this site, telling you the one true way to raise a baby.

I believe that any problem can be solved by the application of observation, planning, and hard work. There is nothing in your life that you should accept unless you want it to be there.

I will attempt to be as inclusive as possible in my use of language. I don’t assume that you fit neatly into the heterosexual married couple with 2.2 children stereotype. If that impression does come across, it’s because I’m writing from my own experience as a heterosexual married man.

As well, I will default to using the pronouns “they” and “them” to refer to babies unless I’m specifically talking about a girl or a boy. I know that this flies in the face of accepted grammar, but I’m willing to sacrifice a little bit of technical correctness for the sake of inclusiveness.

Me and My Little Girl

A Bit About Me

My name is Dave Higgs-Vis. I’ve been married to my wonderful wife Jess for three years now, and we had our first child Mandela last July. My wife is fun, brilliant, and wise, and every day she inspires me to be a better person and a better father. My daughter is bursting with love and laughter, and she has taught me the power of pure joy.

I’m trained as a chef, and I absolutely love to cook. With the high cost of daycare, however, I was looking for a way to stay home with my daughter and still have an income. My passion for raising a happy child, along with a strong ability to communicate my ideas, led me to embark on a blogging career.

What Do I Get Out of It?

This is my job, and I plan to make money from it. There will be ads on this site. I also plan on partnering with affiliates to sell products. Any link that I stand to make money from will always be clearly labelled as such.

As well, I’ll never promote something that I have not personally used: I’m not interested in promoting something merely for the sake of making money.

In addition to making money, I’m also interested in establishing myself in the parenting community. This blog is one of the ways I can become an expert in the field, which will in turn open up opportunities for speaking engagements and coaching contracts.

Finally, I get the satisfaction of knowing that people all over the world are becoming better parents, raising happier children, and making the world a better place for us all.
