Giving Back

spacer On this page are just a few simple ways to Give Back. These are my favorites. What I’ve learned is that every day we have countless opportunities to change this world for the better, to add light and love into the mix, to create the potential for healing and happiness where it might not have existed before. And that it doesn’t matter if we do that in a huge way or in the seemingly tiniest of ways. A smile. Literally that simple. A well timed and placed smile can change someone’s life and at the very least can change that moment in time for the better.

A kind word can go even farther. A gesture, a hand to hold, a gentle thought. Start racking them up. Every day, make a commitment to do just one of those things. I had a wonderful experience during the March of Kindness (2011), hosted by Dionna at Code Name: Mama. I had to overcome some major mental obstacles to allow that even the smallest kindness is worthwhile. Check out the list of 155 ideas for Random Acts of Kindness (RAOK’s) from Code Name: Mama’s site.

The charity closest to my heart is Rita’s Rainbows which is dedicated to helping children in need and which was started in memory of my niece, Rita. I also like to give to the Cup of Joe for a Joe program through Green Beans Coffee.
