The Innkeepers

Marianne and Steve took over the Lyle Hotel in May of 2009 with the mission of reviving this wonderful piece of history with a healthy diet of good food, positive attitude and love. They enjoy the slower pace of life in the Columbia River Gorge and the sunny weather as a pleasant change from the clouds and city-life of Portland. Steve often takes advantage of the weather by riding his Harley in the surrounding hills and Marianne is inspired with the wildflowers and the ample hiking opportunities.

Steve, a native of Mississippi, migrated to the Pacific Northwest in 1977 where he worked as a chef in some of the most vibrant restaurants of the time, L’Escargot, Rhienlander, Grand Cafe and Zell’s to name a few.

Marianne moved to Portland in 1976 from New Jersey. At first she worked with the Janus Program leading a group home for wayward youth before finding her home in the kitchens of some of Portland’s busiest restaurants including Cousin’s, Molly Blooms, L’Escargot (where she and Steve first met). She was the co-owner of Hariett’s in Sellwood and in the Skidmore Fountain Building.

But by the mid-90′s both Steve and Marianne migrated out of the kitchen and into finish carpentry and software engineering. It wasn’t until fate brought them together years later and the stars aligned and them moved to Lyle and back into the world of culinary delights. They are both so very passionate about food and each of their flavors are featured on the menu. They have worked hard to make the Lyle Hotel a culinary destination. And located only 70 miles from Portland, they hope to see you for dinner soon.spacer
