Spurs at Blazers: Where All Good Things Must End
February 21, 2012

This I can guarantee: when the Spurs came back to gut out a tough win in Utah last night (and when he saw the Lakers blew out the Blazers), Pop knew there was almost no chance of the Spurs winning this game. San Antonio has not won in Portland since 2008 and all signs pointed to this being a dud for the Spurs. So, if you are The Popovich, what do you do? If an 11-game win streak is going to end, you do it on your terms, not anyone else’s.

Four By Vore: Spurs at Blazers

Seven down, two to go, and so far so good. We came out so horrifically flat in the third quarter that I thought we were not only going to lose, but get mauled. But, we pulled out of the funk, got some free throws, then buried some 3s, and fought our way to a tough victory.

Tonight, it’s Portland who got drubbed in LA last night and probably got to Portland a good two hours after we did. I’m just saying this one should be the ugly to end all uglies.

Spurs at Jazz: Where They Found a Way to Win
February 20, 2012

There was nothing pretty about this one, but there never is against the Jazz. Games in SLC tend to be of the beat-’em-up variety and the refs swallow their whistles more often than not. Credit to the guys for finding a way to gut out a win in a tough arena against a team that would not go away and wanted to punish anyone who came in the lane. It was a tough game to watch and recap. The offense for both teams never got into sync, the defenses kept pushing the guards farther and farther out, and the refs kept not calling fouls, both ways.

Four By Vore: Spurs at Jazz

The Spurs hit 6-0 on the road trip thanks to a crazy play and some amazing luck. Tonight, we will need to play well against a Jazz that is 12-5 at home coming off a loss at Houston last night.

Spurs at Clippers: Where “Unbelievable” Only Starts to Describe It
February 18, 2012

spacer I have no idea what to make of this game. I thought it was the worst 1st quarter of the season, but one of the best 2nd quarters. I thought the officiating was atrocious, for both teams, but was really slanted toward the Clips (read: Blake) in the 4th. I can’t decide if the Spurs deserved to win this game or got completely lucky. Probably a lot of both. Continue Reading…

Four By Vore: Spurs at Clippers
February 17, 2012

We are on to the second half of the rodeo road trip. We finished the eastern swing at 5-0 (let’s pretend Memphis is in the east, they are on the way to the east for us). The second half kicks off with a game against the Clippers.

As  I mentioned in my thoughts post yesterday, I expect us to be a little more focused for this game. And that means bad things for the Clippers.

Things I’m Thinking About: Halfway Done With RRT
February 16, 2012

Today is an off day and tomorrow is an off day. That’s too long to go without blathering about the Spurs.

Let’s get ready for that 2:30 tip on Saturday. I’m thinking tailgating is in order and I’m going with gin and tonics for my pre-gamer.

Spurs at Raptors: Where Ugly Wins are the Norm
February 16, 2012

Something about Toronto makes the ugly come out for the Spurs. I can’t verify this, because box scores don’t contain style points, but it seems like every season’s game in Canada is one of those games, where the Spurs play poorly and hang on to win. I really hope none of you watched this one. It was 2 hours of my life I’ll never get back.

Off to the great white north and the land of hockey and poutine. The Raptors suffered a tough loss after blowing a big lead last night. The Spurs suffered a tough win after blowing a big lead last night.

This one should have a double dose of ugly. Therefore, I like our chances.
