Law & Order SVU has pulled out another fantastic episode with “Home Invasions.” In the process of telling a story of a home invasion with apparent hate crime overtones, the episode revealed a back story for Detective Amanda Rollins, exposing her own troubles which quickly invaded her job. It’s not the first time in the Law & Order Universe that a detective’s gambling problem was exposed; Ed Greene (Jesse L. Martin, Law & Order) from the 2-7 had his gambling problem come out in a case that ultimately ended his career. In “Home Invasions”, Captain Cragen, while not pleased with Rollins’ revelation, is there to support her in getting her life – and her career – back on track. This story line finally brings some much needed dimension to Rollins.

What sort of fan reaction have you heard about the addition of Kelli Giddish and Danny Pino?
Leight: There are some fans of the Olivia-Elliot relationship for whom that was the only reason they were watching the show. And those fans are just stuck at the moment. Creatively, I think the show has been going very well. [Since] Kelli and Danny have come into the squad room, we have a lot of flexibility now. … It’s allowed for all kinds of interesting combinations and new alliances and problem areas. Fans of the show, I think, are very much engaged. Fans of the Olivia-Elliot relationship? I don’t know what else to do for them.

In the season opener, though, Coco is the focus. A crew captured her disclosure to “SVU” star Kelli Giddish that she wasn’t feeling well. Giddish suggests she see a doctor.

Coco learns she has high blood pressure. Initially, she wasn’t going to let cameras tag along, but then she realized letting viewers see dealing with high blood pressure could be “a good message to get out there.”
