Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were the latest celebrities at Fashion Week as they watched the J. Mendel show in NYC this afternoon. They kicked off the stylish events at QVC’s presentation last week, when they joined Camila Alves and Olivia Palermo in the front row. Mary-Kate and Ashley were the ones in the spotlight on Monday morning, though, since they showed their latest The Row collection to a select group of press at Bemelmans Bar in the Carlyle hotel.

Normally the only person who can get away with wearing sunglasses inside the Fashion Week tents is Anna Wintour.
So perhaps mini fashion moguls Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen were trying to to channel the Vogue editor, as they snagged her style while sitting front row at today’s J. Mendel show.
The 25-year-old twin designers wore nearly identical outfits to the fashion festivities.

Mary-Kate wore a striped T-shirt underneath her black blazer, while Ashley opted for a solid black.

MK’s Ray Ban Wayfarers were also slightly more square-shaped than Ashley’s glamorous shades, but otherwise they looked exactly the same, from the rings they wore down to their beachy blonde hairdos.
The diminutive billionaires are designers in their own right.

They were nominated for a CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) award last year for their line, The Row.
The twins also have another highly successful line, Elizabeth & James, which is named after their siblings.
While Ashley has been fully focused on her career as a designer, Mary-Kate often returns to her first passion – acting.
She most recently starred in Beastly, 2011′s modern-day take on the Beauty & the Beast fairytale

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have hired Prada’s US president and CEO to head up their label The Row.

The fashion design duo say they chose FranCois Kress for the newly developed post at their company because they are looking to expand the brand.

Mary-Kate told WWD: “He quickly became the obvious choice for us and for the brand, having experience in multiple categories which we feel is essential for growth of The Row.”

Ashley added: “His experience and sensibility will add great value to The Row in its next phase of development.”

While a start date has not yet been announced, Mr. Kress – who previously worked for Bulgari Corporation and LVMH before joining Prada in early 2010 – will report to the Olsens as well as Jill Collage, president of Dualstar Entertainment Group.

Thie siblings launched The Row in 2007 after they struggled to find the perfect T-shirt. Since then, they have expanded to create a complete designer sportswear collection and added accessories categories such as sunglasses and handbags.

They also own labels Elizabeth and James and Olsenboye.

J.C. Penney is revamping its sales strategy and Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen are among the designers who helped announce the news in New York on Wednesday.

The Olsen twins, along with fellow J.C. Penney design partners Cindy Crawford, Martha Stewart and Nanette Lepore, joined the retailer’s execs for the official unveiling of the brand’s new look. Also part of the announcement: Ellen DeGeneres is the brand’s newest partner.

She noted that her first job was at Penney’s and she’s happy to help the brand with its relaunch.
