Educational Leadership Masters

- Educational Leadership Degree

To become a leader in your school, you not only need the most current understanding of academic strategy but you also need the ability to motivate the educators around you. The University of New England understands how important the balanced education of school leaders is and responds to that need with its Educational Leadership focused Masters Degree in Education. Offered fully online, educators can continue gaining valuable classroom experience while also acquiring the skills they will need to help advance their careers to leadership roles.

The Educational Leadership concentration is primarily designed for professional K-12 educators who are considering school administration. With 15 credit hours of the program devoted to enhancing this skill, educators will find an enriching education in the exact area they hope to refine in their careers. These courses are matched to the national standards set by the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) and provide entry-level knowledge and skills for beginning school administrators.

During the Educational Leadership program, teachers will be introduced to the theories and practices of effective leadership centering on the importance of team building, decision-making, problem solving and strategic planning. Within these areas, focus is placed on supervision and evaluation of personnel, the legal milieu and analysis skills to interpret potential legal issues within the school, budget development and expenditure, and organizational theory especially as it relates to change. It is important for you to research your specific state requirements for the assistant principal or principal level to ensure that this degree meets those requirements. Additional courses in Education Leadership are available for further study.

If I get a Master’s in Ed. Leadership and decide shortly after that I’d like to get one in Curriculum and Insruction, I only have to take the curriculum courses to get my second Mater’s, correct?

University of New England Enrollment Advisors - May 13th, 2011 at 06:46pm

Michelle, after you complete your MSEd in Educational Leadership, you can complete your CAGS in Curriculum & Instructional Strategies, which includes the 5 concentration courses.

After completing Leadership master’s program do you have to participate in a internship? Is an internship required to obtain a leadership master’s?

University of New England Enrollment Advisors - June 15th, 2011 at 10:44am

Mark, an internship is not part for the course line up for the MSEd in Educational Leadership; however, you can request to add on an internship, if you find out that your state requires one. If you add on an internship, this may be coordinated with the principal at the school you teach in.

I received my MSEd from UNE in 2010. Would any of that be “usable” to get another degree in Educational Leadership to hopefully go into administration?

University of New England Enrollment Advisors - June 30th, 2011 at 03:03pm

Jo-Ann, applicants with a Masters degree and three years teaching or administration experience qualify to pursue the Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies programs. Your enrollment advisor can help you evaluate the Educational Leadership options.

I have a B.S. in Speech Pathology but am wanting to move into administration. I am looking into getting my Master’s in Educational Leadership. I am currently working as a Speech Language Specialist in a public school, have my own classroom, and am starting my 3rd year. Is this program the right one for me to make the switch to Educational Administration?

University of New England Enrollment Advisors - August 2nd, 2011 at 03:55pm

Jaclyn, an enrollment adivsor will contact you, to help you evaluate your program options.

I am an Australian trained teacher who has been living and working as a teacher in London for 9 years. I am interested in doing a Masters in Educational Leadership – Would this course be applicable to my work in the UK as I won’t be back in Australia for another few years at least?

    Debi - September 27th, 2011 at 02:49pm

I currently have a B.S. in Engineering and a M.S. in Education – Technology Curriculum & Instruction. I would like to obtain a specialist in Educational Leadership. I see that UNE has an online Masters Progarm and a Doctoral Program coming. Do you or can you offer the Specialist version? I would also like to eventually continue onto my Doctorial level degree – if you have the Specialist program would any of the courses carry through to the Doctorial degree?

University of New England Enrollment Advisors - September 28th, 2011 at 10:37am

Rebecca, if you are wanting to be licensed as a principal or administrator in Australia, you would want to verify approval with your governing body that oversees this for your region in Australia.

I have taken classes at Grand Canyon University and would like to know if I can transfer credits to your program and if so, how many?

University of New England Enrollment Advisors - October 31st, 2011 at 11:01am

Fred, to maintain program integrity, UNE faculty decided not to accept transfer credits.

    Matt - December 19th, 2011 at 05:36pm

If I complete my Master’s degree in in Educational leadership, will that enable me to obtain an initial license for teaching high school history in Massachusetts?

    Christal - January 3rd, 2012 at 05:12pm

After researching your school, I am very interested in obtaining my Master’s In Educational Leadership. I am wondering if you know if your program is accepted in NC. Also does the Master of Educational Leadership the same as a Master in School Administration

University of New England Enrollment Advisors - January 7th, 2012 at 10:26am

Matt, our online MSEd programs are for experienced educators, so they do not lead to initial teaching licensure.

Christal, it is in your best interest to verify individual approval with your State Department of Education for any graduate program and to obtain approval in writing, should anything change while you are in the program. Each state directs their own administrative licensure process. Your UNE enrollment advisor can provide specific MSEd or CAGS program information, so you can consult with your state.

    Hello,
I am interested in pursuing your Educational Leadership Program online. The cost per credit hour is great and I am highly motivated. At present, I am enrolled at Trinity Univeristy in Washington, DC and would like to know if you accept transfer credits. Also, I need an internship for Maryland Certification and do not see that in your program. Is this an option?
    Thank you!

    Gerry - February 8th, 2012 at 02:31pm

I have 41 graduate credits but no masters degree. Does UNE accept graduate transfer credits? If so how many?
