Adverb slayer.
“I believe the road to hell is paved with adverbs,” Stephen King said devilishly.
Are you a writer at war with adverbs? If you can’t stand the way they add bloat to your manuscript and sap the power from your descriptions, you’re in the right place. Slap on your “adverb slayer” merit badge, grab a red pen, and show Lolly, Lolly, and especially Lolly who’s boss.
This is part of the merit badges for writers series. Have you earned this badge? Tell us why in the comments and post the badge on your website or blog.

Clearly I have earned this badge by diligently, slavishly, and effectively weeding out every unnecessarily introduced adverb! I find I often miss them when proofreading my copy. As a remedy, I’ve added an ly find/search as part of my proofreading routine. I also use the search function to find t he an altogether too common typo in my writing.
Thank you for offering these merit badges.
@bonita del rey: -ly search for the win! Good suggestion!
