Anja Rubik the model face of the future
Anja Rubik is a twenty- eight- year- old model who was born in Poland. Her family moved with her to Greece when she was five, and they have also lived in South Africa, Canada, and Paris, France, where she decided on becoming a model. Until she completed her education at the British high school she was then attending, she worked only on holidays. Since then, Anja Rubik has appeared on the covers of many magazines throughout the world, including Elle and several national versions of Vogue. She has also served as the model for many of the biggest brands in fashion items— Givenchy, Christian Dior, Gucci, H & M, Barneys New York, and Chloé among them— and done haute couture for four brands— Chanel, Christian Lacroix, Elie Saab, and Valentine. The past three annual Victoria’s Secret Fashion Shows have also featured Anja Rubik among their models.
Other projects, both past and present, in which Anja Rubik has been involved include the following:
- Yoga Wii, an exercise video game launched in 2009
- Top Model. Zostań modelką (the Polish version of America’s Top Model)— Panienka Rubyk has been featured in both the past two years
- She has made appearances at various charities, such as the Diner de Charité Parisien organisé au profit des enfants du Rwanda; a photograph on her website shows her with Giuseppe Zanotti.
Some projects Anja has participated in against her will. Photographers for National Geographic— or rather, one in particular by the name of Naq Lee— once “stalked” her and several other fellow models, including Natasha Poly, Isabeli Fontana, Abbey Lee Kershaw, and Karolina Kurkova, by trailing them backstage during Fashion Week. He then put together a video that showed the models in their “natural habitat”— that is, on the street against a background of cars and pedestrians. Neither Anja nor any one of the other models seemed to mind being shot this way in the least; they looked quite serene. The video may be seen on Global Grind’s website.
Anja also likes to travel to foreign countries as a pastime. Once she went to Thailand on what she called a “luxurious” backpacking trip. The spicy food there was so delicious, and the people so nice, that she had “the best time ever.” Once a year, she goes back to visit her parents and sister in Poland. There, she also helps to design shoes and bags for a prominent company. In addition, Anja loves painting and drawing, and has even done exhibitions of her work. She loves animals of all kinds, and has had several pets, including a rat that died a year or two ago.
Just about a year ago, the Polish model became engaged to another fellow model— a Serb named Sasha Knezevic. they did a campaign for the DKNY original scent in Times Square, which they reenacted on April 22, 2011. Just under three months later, the couple had a happy Model Marriage on the island of Majorca. Peter Dundas, a friend of hers who does designing for Emilio Pucci, made the wedding dress for her. And she looked absolutely breathtaking in it— as did the groom in his tuxedo.
Anja Rubik really loves the modeling business. She says that she finds it to be great fun.
Incidentally, the character Cane Lele on the manga “the One” is based on Anja Rubrik.
