Today’s Episode Will Be Late

Hi gang,

Things have been hectic the past few weeks at the My Fair Hunter headquarters…  Sarah is sick — too sick to even lift her lance!  For that reason we couldn’t record a new episode over the weekend, but I am hoping to have something for you guys later this week to make up for it!

Thanks and happy hunting!

-Roy

bunnytheswordsman asked: "Roy, I know you like Dark Souls, but I almost forgot to ask you about this other game. You think you'll be getting Dragon's Dogma?"

I. Love. Dark Souls.  As for Dragon’s Dogma, I am approaching it with caution.  It’s clear to me that the game was designed to try and combine what makes Monster Hunter great (hunting huge beasts) with a western aesthetic.  I believe this was an attempt on Capcom’s part to make a stronger impact on the western market and perhaps develop an IP that would capture a following akin to Monster Hunter’s.  So you may see why I feel conflicted on supporting it…  Still, I am happy to see a major developer taking a chance on a new title.  I will most likely wait until the game drops and see what some trusted sources have to say about it!

deltabot asked: "hi, congatulation is very good idea, and i love this little team :) . (excuse me what software you use to film?). my tumbl MH "klokulak""

Whoops, sorry for the delay - this has been sitting in our inbox since November! But it’s good that we’re answering now because our setup has changed since then.

We capture gaming footage using HD PVR Capture which goes to Roy’s MacBook Pro. We use a USB microphone to record our voices with Audacity. When we have a guest speaker, we record with Audio Hijack Pro since it can record audio coming from Skype. Once we’re done recording Roy uses Handbrake to convert the video clips to a format that’s compatible with Final Cut Pro X, which is what he uses to edit everything together.

It took us a looong time to get this system down, but this is how we’re able to produce higher quality videos now. Hope that helps give you an insight on how the episodes are put together!

[Episode 26]

It’s finally time for Sarah to learn a new weapon: the longsword!  I admit to being a relative amateur when it comes to swinging one of these around, so I invited an expert to whip us into shape.  After learning the finer points of samurai impersonation we take on a saber-toothed tiger crossbred with a bat, aka the Barioth!  This will be an epic clash between amber tusk and honed steel — who will stain the snow of the tundra with their blood?  The somber Popo watches silently.  Wow, that was dramatic…

A friend of mine on Twitter asked me what would be a good weapon and armor set for gunning down Kushala Daora.  I replied with a heavy bowgun capable of loading either Thunder Shot, Poison, or Pierce — all of the above being optimal (but hard to come by at low rank).  I’ve been meaning to go after this elder dragon ever since I started playing around with the bow, as his armor set has Focus (an extremely helpful skill for bow users).  For this reason I decided I would just record a video.

Here is my gear set up:

You may notice I get kicked around a lot early on, that is because I am recklessly trying to keep the beast poisoned which requires you to keep the status change pressure going.  The heavy recoil of the Poison 2 shots get me carted unfortunately, but I still manage to pull off three poisons which is probably the limit for one Kushala run.  It should be noted that this was the second time I fought him, meaning I had already repelled him once.  The first time I fought him I obviously broke his horn, which negates his wind aura for the remainder or his angry, metallic life.  When fighting him for the first time the aura can be troublesome, but keeping him poisoned and maintaining a good distance should result in basically the same outcome as in this video.

[Episode 25]

This week Sarah sets her sights on a new monster’s head, or tail – we can’t be totally sure, as the monster in question is the Gigginox!  We are also joined by Joel who provides some Great Sword swinging assistance as well as much needed monster voice acting talent.  (We can fly Joel out to LA whenever you’re ready, Capcom!)  Since poison is the Gigginox’s specialty, I go over how to craft several items which assist in removing poison from yourself as well as your allies.  After the Gigginox, we try our hand at a quick Rathalos.

Notice: This week’s episode will be posted tomorrow. Unfortunately we’ve been experiencing technical issues due to the large video files. Thanks for your patience as we try to get things sorted out.

Sarah reporting in with another commission ! This one is the last of Bunny’s requests for his original character Guy and his poogie. Guy is an easy-going hunter and that is maybe why he doesn’t notice the felyne village he is strolling through. His poogie must know what’s up, though, because he is eager to GTFO…

(Sorry, commissions are currently closed. Until next time!)
