This table/cabinet graces the entry in our home. It was patterned after a sculpture I saw on a home tour. Read about its construction on my blog (Click the Hall table link under Categories on the blog page). Locally harvested air-dried walnut; 66” w x 15” d x 31” h.

I really like the floating top theme. This was my attempt to make a table top float above the structure below. Tiger maple, cherry and acrylic; 21” w x 47” l x 17” h.

Attention to detail and carefully chosen wood create a very attractive piece. The cabinet is patterned after a design by James Krenov. The interior is divided in half with one shelf on one side and two on the other. Shedua, bigleaf maple; 24” w x 10” d x 58” h.

The genesis of this cabinet was a maple board with a few interesting holes in it. When the board was split open, the split surface was covered with the workings of at least three different types of insects, creating an intricate maze of tunnels and channels. The panel was then cut to maximize the aesthetic of the patterns. To complement the panel, spalted bigleaf maple, salvaged from British Columbia, was used for the carcase. The surface is finished with shellac and wax. This piece can be viewed at Once A Tree Gallery in Anaheim CA. 9" w x 28" h x 6" d.

This set was designed and built for a client who has a classic 1950's contemporary home. I incorporated the floating top theme into the table. Natural birch. Table 40" w x 42" d x 30" h; chairs 20" w x 21" d x 40" h.

This is the largest piece of the Hansen commission. All surfaces are veneer, with the exception of the table edge. This was a very challenging piece to make. I have included the computer-generated image created by the designer for reference. Redwood burl, makore; 54" dia x 30" h, ext to 10½’.

The last piece in the Hansen commission. The desk includes two drawers on either side of a pullout keyboard support. A wire channel guides all cables to the right apron. The home was designed to accommodate the cables at that point. Redwood burl, makore, mahogany; 30" w x 60" l x 30" h.

I often received unique requests for work, and this was one of the more interesting ones. The First United Methodist Church in Redondo Beach had purchased a 1923 bell for their bell tower but needed to replace the rope wheel. I copied the old wheel as much as possible. White oak.

This table was a moderate success; I have never been totally happy with the design. A learning experience. Maple, curly maple; 21" w x 46" l x 17" h.

Platform bed and nightstands. The client had a photo of a bed from a magazine, but the bed was not available in the size he wanted. I designed the nightstands to complement the bed. I made a 1/10 scale mockup to ensure the proportions were correct. Alder, granite (nightstand tops); 90" w x 96" d x 46" h, 30" w x 20" d x 22" h.
