GREETINGS FROM DAN
January 2012

The MLK holiday concert at St. Joan of Arc Church is coming up fast. This year's show, Been to the Mountaintop, features Robert Robinson and the combined choirs of St. Joan of Arc and Mount Olivet Lutheran, about 200 voices in all. Plus T Mychael Rambo, Timothy Frantzich and a rockin’ band. Tickets are going, going; hope you make it.

Ann Reed has written a sweet show, Nothin’ But Class, in tribute to Dorothy Fields, one of the great lyricists of the golden era of Broadway and Hollywood, and just about the only woman in the songwriter’s club. You know her songs: “Sunny Side of the Street,” “I’m In the Mood For Love,” “The Way You Look Tonight”... Now come hear her story. Ann Reed, Denise Tabet, Joan Griffith and I, we’ll be doing three performances around the state starting in February.

I get to hitch my little wagon to Kevin Kling’s speeding train again soon here, this time with another Valentine’s show at O’Shaughnessey, Cold Feet, Warm Hearts on February 11. Same great cast as two years ago: Prudence Johnson, Claudia Schmidt, Bradley Greenwald and Simone Perrin.

You can still get your monthly sing-along fix at the Loring Park Rec Center every third Tuesday night of the month. That’s January 17, February 21 and March 20 for starters. Music, camaraderie, cookies, punch, all of it free. And if you’re in the mood for ‘60s pop and R&B, mark your calendar: Friday April 20 there’s a Brill Building-themed sing-along to benefit the Camden Music School. I’ll host with an all-star cast.
