Vineet Ganju and Martin Ambrose
Texas Instruments

The way consumers enjoy entertainment content will be getting a makeover in the years to come as high-speed audio encoding digital signal processors (DSPs) find their way into home and automotive consumer electronics (CE) systems. By significantly reducing the time taken to rip and encode CD audio to storage, traditional systems like car stereos and home media players will receive new functionality with an enhanced user experience. Furthermore, by integrating system control into the encoding DSP and greatly reducing system cost, a new market will be spawned for standalone accessories such as clock radio jukeboxes and fast CDto- MP3 player rippers.
