Randy Orton def. United States Champion Dolph Ziggler in a Beat the Clock Challenge Match

In a grueling Beat a Clock Challenge against Dolph Ziggler, Randy Orton struggled to get back in the ring and best the time of 7:53 – set earlier in the night by Wade Barrett. However, while Vickie Guerrero distracted the referee, his WWE TLC opponent appeared from nowhere, hurling The Viper into the steel ring post. Despite this onslaught, the resilient Orton reengaged Ziggler in time, executing the RKO to overcome his English adversary’s benchmark by two seconds!

Orton’s triumph earned him the right to pick his stipulation for his WWE TLC Match against Barrett. After the main event had concluded, the British brawler made a forceful suggestion as to what the stipulation should be, attempting to put Orton through a table. But, The Viper foiled his plan, hurling Dolph Ziggler through the table instead.

Later That Night

Wade Barrett def. Ezekiel Jackson in a Beat the Clock Challenge Match

Battling for the right to pick the stipulation for his match with Randy Orton at WWE TLC – choosing from tables, ladders or chairs options – Wade Barrett overcame Ezekiel Jackson in a Beat the Clock Challenge, setting the time for WWE’s Apex Predator to beat at 7:53. Moments after The Personification of Domination escaped Wasteland, Barrett caught him off the ropes, delivering a vicious side slam for the crucial victory.

Following the match, Barrett proclaimed that he is the only voice in Orton’s head – and it’s telling The Viper his time is up.

WWE ’12 Cover Superstar Retrospective — One on One

December 2nd, 2011
We go one on one with the WWE ’12 RKO cover Superstar, Randy Orton, in this stroll down memory lane. A world-wide exclusive MUST READ interview.

I must admit, I’ve never identified with Randy Orton. In fact, I could almost say that I found him “boring.” That was just my ignorance talking, and my refusal to look deep inside the motivation behind “The Viper” prohibited me from really enjoying who he is. I’ve made this same mistake in the past. I spent many years despising Michael Jordan, not only because of his ability to constantly break the hearts of my Cleveland Cavaliers, but because I could never identify with the guy.

The same could be said for my personal feelings for Stone Cold Steve Austin in the early part of his career in the WWE (not as “The Ringmaster”). I never identified with the persona that he carried, and I refused to look beyond the surface to see that “Stone Cold” was only a reflection of himself and his past history. I was also an idiot back then…

But that doesn’t excuse my blindness towards Orton. So, when I learned that I was going to interview the cover Superstar, I really didn’t know what to expect. The results though, were astounding. Not only is Randy Orton one of the most complex individuals I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet, but he’s also an extremely driven person who stands up for what he believes in. You may have heard him defend John Cena, and surely haters loved that one, but he’s just so certain in what he’s doing. His confidence in his ability and himself is unmatched. Strike that, I wouldn’t even call it “confidence.” I’d say that he is so self-aware, that it benefits him and the career he’s chosen.

Without further ado, here’s my interview with “The Legend Killer,” “The Viper,” and WWE ’12 Cover Superstar, Randy Orton:

Hammer: You’ve had quite the career, and it doesn’t seem like you’re going to stop anytime soon. Out of every match you’ve ever had, which has been your favorite? We’ll make it easy on you, we’ll give you two choices.

Orton: Favorite match — Orton vs Foley at Backlash of 2004. It’s included on my latest DVD. I spat in Mick’s face, and he left. He came back as Cactus Jack, and everything fell into place. I landed on thumbtacks, and did stuff we really can’t do anymore, but it was an amazing buildup.

The crowd was magic for 35 minutes. They were there for everything we wanted them to be there for. The noise rumbles, and you can’t hear yourself think. I’ve been with Cena before, and because he’s so over we have very loud matches. I go back and watch the match, and it’s not that great, but people were loud and that’s what matters because they were on the edge of their seats.

The match with Mick was just like that. I knew I was landing on those tacks a month before, and had nightmares about it, and personally it was where I went from being a boy to a man in the lockerroom from peers, fans, etc.. I beat Cactus Jack at his own game. The build personally, was what jumpstarted my career, and made me the “Legend killer.” I also have other favorites; the “Three Stages of Hell” match with Triple H, a bunch with Edge, and of course The Undertaker.

Hammer: Who would you say has been your main rival over your almost 10-year WWE career?

Orton: John Cena in ’09. I had a four month storyline where we exchanged titles. We had a memorable “Iron Man” match, and we traded wins and losses. I’m the anti-John Cena. If he’s kissing babies, wearing necklaces, then I’m doing the opposite. He’s a beast in the gym, and beast on the mic. He’s also in movies and everything, but I don’t see myself doing much more of that. I’m a WWE Superstar to the bone.

Hammer: If you could have one dream match vs anyone in the history of the WWE, who would it be?

Orton: My dad (“Cowboy” Bob Orton) got to wrestle his old man, but it’d be cool to do that as well. He was one of the best ring technicians, and everyone always had good things to say about my father. He was the innovator of a lot of moves, and he helped bring the business to where it is. I’d want to wrestle him in a straight up, babyface hour broadway.

Hammer:
What is it that you’d like to accomplish in your career going forward?

Orton: I’ve had the titles, the Royal Rumble win, and the main event for WrestleMania 25, but in the future I’d like to see me grow not only as a Superstar, but as a man and father/husband. I also and hope for my health. I’d like to make it into my 40′s and compete and retire, but not because my neck is bad or anything like that, but so I’m able to go out on top on my own terms, like HBK.

So many in the business can’t say that, but I want to finish on top and stay healthy. I’ve been using a lot of the advancements in preventitve medacine more recently. I took a page out of John Cena’s book to do things for my muscular/neuro connection. I’m training specifically for what I do in the ring. Explosive movement or plyometrics. I just want all of my limbs to stay in their sockets, so at the final bell, I can say that I did it all.
