Dagoberto Gilb

Dagoberto Gilb is a writer of fiction who is also recognized for his essays. Born in Los Angeles, he lived as long in El Paso before he moved to Austin. He is the Writer-in-Residence at the University of Houston-Victoria, where he is also the Executive Director of Centro Victoria, its center for Mexican American Literature and Culture. Gilb spent sixteen years as a construction worker, twelve on high-rises as a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners.
Gilb’s work has been singled out for many prizes, among them a PEN/Hemingway Award, a Whiting Writer’s Award, a Guggenheim Fellowship, the Southwest Book Award, and has been a finalist for the PEN Faulkner and National Book Critics Circle. Much anthologized, his writing is published in many magazines, most recently in Harper’s, The New Yorker, Callaloo, and The Threepenny Review.
