HAVEN RENEWED FOR S3
filed in emily rose, lucas bryant, news

“Haven” fans rejoice: Syfy’s supernatural drama will return to the net for a third season in 2012. The net has ordered a further 13 hourlong segs of the series, which is based on Stephen King’s novella “The Colorado Kid” and set in a small Maine town filled with supernatural secrets.

The series averaged nearly a million 18- to 49-year-old viewers per episode during season two, with 1.14 million in the 25 to 54 demo and 2.55 million total viewers (including people who watched the show on DVR up to seven days after broadcast).

Q3 of 2011 was a remarkably good quarter for scripted series on Syfy: “Haven,” “Alphas,” “Warehouse 13″ and “Eureka” (which heads into its final season next year on the NBCUniversal network) all broke the 2.5 million mark in total viewers. The high performance earned Syfy its most-watched Q3 in the cabler’s 19-year history, with an 8% year-on-year boost in the 18-49 demo.

“Haven” is produced by Entertainment One, which controls worldwide distrib, and Big Motion Pictures in association with Piller/Segan/Shepherd. The show is co-commissioned by Canadian shingle Shaw Media and Universal Networks International.

scifi vision interview Lucas
filed in interviews, lucas bryant

Lucas chatted with scifi vision about Haven’s finale and what might be coming up for Lucas and the show possible s3……

SCIFI VISION: How are you feeling about how Audrey and Nathan’s relationship is changing?

LUCAS BRYANT: Yes, well it’s been a long time coming, huh?

And yes it is exciting. I think a lot of fans got what they wanted this past episode – I mean a taste of it anyway. And then maybe some were horrified, but I hope there’s not too many of those. But yes I’m sorry to say I don’t see it progressing as easily as one might hope and realize. I mean there’s definitely going to be some roadblocks and speed bumps, I can’t and won’t tell you exactly what they are, and I don’t know the half of them. But yes I think that puts us on a trajectory that has potential to be lovely, but will probably inevitably be very difficult and potentially dangerous.

QUESTION: Your work in last week’s episode, when you’re at the meeting after Audrey kissed, you’re absolute perfection.

LUCAS BRYANT: Oh, thank you. Yes that was a big moment, we really were concerned about getting it right. And I think it landed well, so I’m very happy about that.

Emily Rose on Her Returns to “Haven”
filed in emily rose, interviews, lucas bryant, news

Syfy’s Haven follows FBI Agent Audrey Parker, played by Emily Rose, who first came to the town of Haven, Maine last season to investigate strange occurancances in the town. Many of the town’s residents, including the local cop she teams up with, Nathan Wournos (Lucas Bryant), are afflicted with “troubles.” They are also joined by Duke Crocker (Eric Balfour), the local smuggler who seems to know more than he lets on. Audrey struggles to find answers about her mother and even about herself.

Rose is known for such television series as Brothers & Sisters, Jericho, and ER. She also stars as Elena Fisher in the popular video game series Uncharted.

Emily Rose talked to the media recently about her return to Haven, which airs Fridays on Syfy.

QUESTION: There’s such great chemistry on screen with you and Lucas and Eric and it really translates, I’m sure, from your friendship off screen. However, Eric revealed your nickname to some journalists last week, how much trouble is he in?

EMILY ROSE: He’s in a bit of trouble. Lucas came up with it, but then Eric has implemented it and I just giggle. I feel like on set it’s like having these two older brothers that I never had. I always asked for older brothers, but now you know you’ve got to be careful what you wish for because those two like I’m on their on-set sister and they’re constantly going after me in any little way; any little nickname that – you know?

And of course, then Eric makes it all public by Twittering about it. It’s kind of funny, but it’s kind of a rolling thing with Lucas. Lucas kind of comes up with new nicknames on a weekly basis. It’s whatever strikes his fancy, and then he just goes to town with it.

‘Haven’ star seeing double
filed in blog, emily rose, interviews, news

Emily Rose was pointing a gun at a mirror as the first season of Haven ended.

Well, not literally. But Rose’s character, Audrey Parker, was staring at a new character who had just shown up, claiming to be Audrey Parker.

“We call her Fraudrey,” Rose said with a laugh. “But we don’t know if she’s really Fraudrey.”

Truth is a relative thing in Haven, the attractively creepy Canadian-American co-production that returns for its second season Monday, July 18 on Showcase. Haven also airs on Syfy in the United States.

Certainly, given that the first episode of the second season is titled A Tale of Two Audreys, the double-identity angle is explored right away.

“Even though it’s a brief arc, it’s a really neat journey they go down together,” Rose said of the dual Audreys, the second of whom is played by Kathleen Munroe.

“They do wrestle with figuring each other out, and becoming close, but then, what does that mean? Is this my place or is this your place? It’s so fantastic and so exciting what happens next.”

Haven, which is filmed in Nova Scotia and set in Maine, is a supernatural drama loosely based on the Stephen King novel The Colorado Kid. Besides Rose, Haven stars Lucas Bryant as Nathan and Eric Balfour as Duke.

The small coastal town of Haven, Maine, is populated with people suffering from “the troubles” — aka destructive powers, however inadvertent — and it’s not the first time this bizarre type of plague has occurred.

Rose’s Audrey was an FBI agent when she found herself in Haven on what she thought was a routine case at the beginning of season one. However, she soon deduced she has a mysterious connection to the town, and it’s no accident that she’s there.

As season two begins, though, in some ways Audrey is more confused than ever. Who, she asks, is this new Audrey Parker who is disconcertingly convincing, seems to have proper I.D., and even might share some dark memories?

“This was interesting from an acting perspective, because I was working across from a different person, but it was like an earlier version of my character,” Rose said. “It’s a great on-screen juxtaposition of where Audrey has been and where she is going.

“Kathleen is just fantastic, and working with her is so fun. It’s like being back in (acting) class again, because I get to work on really great scenes and really munch on the question of, ‘What would it be like?’

“It was cool to be looking down the barrel of this journey that you’ve already taken, but then having to figure out what makes my Audrey different.”

By the way, full credit to Haven’s producers for casting an alternative Audrey who physically doesn’t resemble the incumbent one at all. It actually is spookier that way.

“Totally, totally,” Rose agreed. “It helps our characters believe even more firmly that this can’t be possible.”

Is anything possible in Haven?

Stay tuned to find out which Audrey is the Fraudrey.

Getting to Know Emily Rose
filed in blog, emily rose, interviews, news

Syfy will premiere the season opener of “Haven” this Friday and there are a lot of fans who are having a hard time waiting to find out who Audrey really is. Emily Rose wants to know too.

Rose puts some of herself into her character on “Haven,” but it would be unfair to claim she and Audrey are the same person.

As a girl growing up, Rose could often be found hanging out around horses and horse barns. She learned how to shoot and about gun safety from her father and that makes her comfortable in a role where her character carries a gun. She likes the action scenes and is looking forward to more of them in the new season.

Audrey’s quirkiness and humor are a couple of things that particularly appealed to Rose when she first read the role. The stubbornness of the character spoke to her as well. She confesses to being a bit on the stubborn side too.

The softer side of Audrey, the one that often helps others while neglecting herself, occasionally frustrates Rose, but she does like the nurturing nature that Audrey has despite a less than idyllic childhood.

Landing the role of Audrey fulfilled one of Rose’s main acting goals. Playing the lead part in a series is big, and it may be the stepping stone to acting in a feature film. That’s where Rose would like to go while on hiatus and after many seasons of “Haven.” The idea of a project that is finite and has an end that she knows all along is appealing.

During college and postgraduate work, Rose acted in live stage productions and had the opportunity to mentor children. She’d love to get back to both of those in the future.

Those who play video games may know Rose from her role in “Uncharted.” She not only gives a voice to Elena Fisher but provides the body movements as well. The characters are created using motion capture. The only thing that differs about acting in the game is that the actors wear motion caption suits instead of costumes.

There are rumors of a movie based on the game and Rose says she dreams of playing Elena Fisher on the big screen.

The location where “Haven” is filmed (and it is actually on film rather than digital video to give it that special look that only film gives) takes Rose far from her Los Angeles home, but she’s come to feel fond of it. The small town of Chester in Nova Scotia was chosen over Vancouver — a common filming site for Syfy series — because it gives the feel of a New England town that just can’t be duplicated. The town is a character and Chester provides the mysterious feel needed for “Haven.”

The people of the town have taken the cast and crew to heart and even celebrate with a “Haven” night at the local pub when the show is airing.

When not working on a paying project, Rose continues to ply her craft. She gives the advice to actors that she was given in school: Keep working on your instrument. Even if you are only presenting plays in your living room for your friends, keep on working. Don’t wait for an audition to work on your skills.

Right now, Rose doesn’t need to present living room plays; she’s busy filming the episodes for this year’s “Haven.”

Although Rose knows a little more than “Haven’s” audience, she doesn’t have all the answers. Last year’s cliffhanger had her wondering who Audrey was right along with the rest of us. The mystery is intriguing, but also challenging for an actor. She has to hope that the way she plays the character fits what will be coming in the future. The words of a favorite acting coach help Rose when she questions herself. He told his students not to doubt their ability to portray a character — they are good enough.

Fans love “Haven” and Audrey. I don’t think anyone doubts that Rose is good enough.

Haven airs Friday nights at 10 p.m. ET on Syfy.
