Jeph Loeb Talks Hulk TV At New York Comic Con

Posted by Craig Byrne on October 15th, 2011

spacer At the Marvel Television panel at this year’s New York Comic Con, Marvel’s Head of Television Jeph Loeb didn’t talk a lot about Hulk TV, but he did say a little bit of what he’ll look like.

Loeb says that the Hulk will look “as closely as possible” like how he will look in the Avengers movie. “I’m very, very confident that the Hulk you’re going to see when we finally get on the air on ABC, is going to look like something other than us putting a lot of paint on Lou Ferrigno,” Loeb said today.

Loeb also confirmed things that were talked about before – Cloak & Dagger and Mockingbird are still in development at ABC Family, and AKA Jessica Jones will feature Carol Danvers (Ms. Marvel) and Luke Cage within.

As pilot casting starts happening early in the year, we’ll probably be hearing more soon.

Posted by Craig Byrne on July 23rd, 2011

This morning at the Comic-Con International in San Diego, Jeph Loeb updated fans on many in-development Marvel TV projects, including The Hulk.

Here’s what he said:

“this is a story that will focus on the early days of the Hulk, when people didn’t know about his terrible secret and enormous power.” There will also be a romantic element. “We’ll be focusing on the love story between Bruce Banner and Betty Ross, how the two are brought together and continuously torn apart by the monster within,” he says.

Finally: A Hulk TV Update From Guillermo Del Toro

It’s been a few months since we last had an update about the new Hulk TV project which is said to be in development for Fall 2012.

FEARnet caught up with producer Guillermo Del Toro and left with the first solid update we’ve had in a while.

“We turned in the outline to ABC about four weeks ago, and then we did a rewrite for ABC on the outline, and now we are lining up the pages,” Del Toro said.

As for whether it’s safe to assume that this will be a different Hulk than we’ve seen before, Guillermo said “I think so, or we wouldn’t be trying it. Actually, one of the points of this project early on with Marvel, was “We’re going to do this thing different, and here’s how. Are you interested?” And they were.”

Stay tuned for more updates when and if they become available.

The Hulk’s TV Chances Are Pretty High

EW’s James Hibberd reports news from ABC’s Entertainment President Paul Lee that the Hulk’s chances at hitting TV screens are “pretty high.”

“I’m thrilled we have Marvel within our family, itโ€™s a superb opportunity for us,” Lee says. “If youโ€™’e going to bring back a franchise, itโ€™s easier to launch a well-known franchise, but what really distinguishes these are the showrunners โ€” we have A-list showrunners,” Lee says, referring to Guillermo Del Toro and David Eick

The Hulk isn’t the only Marvel project in the works at ABC – AKA Jessica Jones, based on the character from Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Gaydos’ Alias, is also in development, and Lee hints that they may not be the only two Marvel projects that ABC will do.

Mark Ruffalo On Hulk TV

Actor Mark Ruffalo, who will be playing Bruce Banner/The Hulk in the upcoming Avengers film, was just interviewed by IGN about the iconic role. He revealed he’s been catching up on the Bill Bixby Incredible Hulk TV series, among other things, but the part that stood out to us was his answer regarding new Hulk TV. Here’s what he had to say:

IGN: They’ve announced that Guillermo del Toro’s doing a live-action TV series of the Hulk. It sounds almost like a prequel to what you guys are doing in Avengers. What are your thoughts on there being another live-action iteration of the Hulk at the same time as yours?

Ruffalo: Dude, it’s like my generation’s Hamlet. It looks like we’re all gonna get a shot at it. I guess the more the merrier, you know?

One could read into that to imply that Ruffalo has no interest in taking the character from movies to TV, but hey – we have over a year to find out what ends up happening there. You can read the entire IGN interview here.

Guillermo Del Toro & David Eick Take On The Hulk!

Posted by Craig Byrne on November 15th, 2010

So much for the Lindelof rumors: Deadline.com is reporting that Pan’s Labyrinth and Hellboy veteran Guillermo Del Toro and Battlestar Galactica’s David Eick are “finalizing a deal” to bring the Hulk back to television.

Deadline reports that the series premise is “sketchy” but it will be an origin story, around physicist Bruce Banner who will be in “his mid-twenties.” He’s described as “less reactive and more energized as the world is still his oyster.”

The Hulk himself will be “a mixture of prosthetics, puppetry, and CGI.”

Del Toro and Eick will be breaking the pilot story together, sharing story and creator credits. Eick will write the script, and it is hoped that Del Toro will direct, depending on his availability. Del Toro will also be involved with character design.

Sadly, the article also states that due to all of the prep work needed, The Hulk will not be ready for Fall 2011, and instead it might follow 2012′s Avengers movie instead.

Also executive producing the series will be Gary Ungar of Exile, Marvel TV topper Jeph Loeb and Marvel Entertainment’s chief creative officer Joe Quesada.

“I have always been attracted at the combination of comic book heroics and monsters, Jack Kirby’s Demon or Kamandi or DC’s Deadman or Marvel’s Dr. Strange, Morbius, Metamorpho, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy, etc,” Del Toro has said. Del Toro added that, with partner Eick “we coalesced a respectful but powerful way of retelling the Banner/Hulk story in a fresh way.”

David Eick describes the Hulk as “one of the crown jewels of the Marvel world for generations” and said it was a “dream opportunity to join one of my all-time filmmaking heroes, Guillermo del Toro, in a faithful but unique retelling of the primal, emotionally-rich tale of one of my all-time comic books.”

Hulk TV Updates From Entertainment Weekly: Lindelof On The Wish List?

Posted by Craig Byrne on October 30th, 2010

Entertainment Weekly’s Lynette Rice, herself a very reliable scooper when it comes to TV news, has posted an article about new Hulk TV which has some good news as well as some not so good, for those who’d like to see the big green guy back on television.

The bad news is that EW has been cautioned that “any speculation about the return of the big green man is premature, though interest from ABC is apparently there.” There is no script and no actor signed up to assume the high-profile role.

The good news is that another name that has been included on Marvel TV’s wishlist is Damon Lindelof, one of the architects of LOST that made that show such a hit for so many years. Hulk? Lindelof? Like 1980′s NBC, we’d all be there! Let’s hope this is is something that Marvel TV is seriously considering, and that Lindelof would even be interested, if this project even ends up happening.

Lindelof also has experience writing The Hulk as he was the writer of Marvel’s Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk comic book miniseries.

You can read the full EW piece, which was posted yesterday, here.

More From Stan Lee On New Hulk TV

Posted by Craig Byrne on October 25th, 2010

The Detroit Free Press caught up with Stan Lee a few days prior to the Detroit Fanfare convention which will be held this weekend. One thing Stan was asked about in the interview is the possibility of a new Hulk TV series. Stan didn’t say much, but what he did say is this:

“Oh that’s very exciting, and I think it’ll probably be very good. I can’t wait to see it.”

So, not a lot to come from Stan, but little quotes are news for now until Jeph Loeb or others speak up and talk more about the future of Marvel Television.
