The Häggeby stone

spacer

Co-Action Publishing’s office in Sweden is located close to the village of Häggeby, 50 km from Stockholm and some 30 km from Arlanda Airport and Uppsala. In front of the village church, dating back to the 13th century, stands a replica of a picture stone with beautiful and very well kept pictures carved on each side. The original, a rare archaeological find, is placed in the Historical Museum in Stockholm. The stone was found close to the church and is probably from the late Iron Age. Other finds in the vicinity suggest that there was an early settlement in and around today’s village.

One side of the stone depicts a fight between two stallions (shown several times in Fellini’s Satyricon), and the other the grand-scale rowing boat that embellishes our website. This image represents our publishing philosophy. It shows the importance of co-operation (or co-action) between the rowers in the boat needed to move it forward, yet at the same time illustrates the necessity and desirability of having one of them direct, and thereby facilitating, their efforts, as can be seen with the helmsman at the rudder.

Co-Action Publishing sees itself as one of the members in a partnership between stakeholders in a publishing venture, be it a journal or a book. We row the boat together and we have a common direction. However, we may play different roles in different situations. The role of Co-Action Publishing is sometimes to be the helmsman, supervising and coordinating all activities, sometimes to be just one of the rowers, contributing with our special strengths.
