September 2006
Greetings All:
We are SO excited here at Ba Da Bing HQ. So very, very
excited. Why? Well, we're excited for YOU, the website reader,
who will have all the below to look forward to. All this,
throw in a Hardy Boys book, and you pretty much have a Fall
06 made in Heaven.
WHEN BEIRUT MADE ANOTHER RECORD
When last we spoke, Zach was about to release his
debut album, Gulag Orkestar, to a chorus of praise from
blogs and hogs (Bessie in our barn behind the house just
luuuves "Rhineland"). Since then, he's recruited
an impressive live orkestar (including accordion, violin,
baritone sax, and euphonium) and played a series of thrilling
shows (including one in Moscow, Russia). A new EP, entitled
The Lon Gisland EP, will be out on Chouette this fall to
coincide with the band's first national tour.
THE DEAD C
In our last update I urged everyone to take the new Dead
C compilation, Vain Erudite and Stupid, to the beach and
blast it over boomboxes, since it's the album of the summer
and all. I'm happy to report that now you can take my advice:
Vain Erudite and Stupid is available in all of its ragged
grandeur and noise-rock glory. This two-disc set, which
brings together classic tracks with obscurities chosen by
the band themselves, is for sale (at a single-disc price!)
and so is a limited 7" featuring the first-ever appearance
of "Bad Politics" on vinyl.
Another exciting piece of news: The Dead C will be making
one of their rare live appearances at Thurston Moore's Nightmare
Before Christmas festival this December in the UK, as part
of the All Tomorrow's Parties machine.
ESSIE JAIN
Additionally, this month Ba Da Bing is pleased to welcome
to the company picnic the very talented Essie Jain. Essie
was born and raised in London and describes herself as "very
British," though she's now a native of our very own
New York City. Her song "Why" was featured on
the Kill Rock Stars compilation, The Sound the Hare Heard.
Her first full-length album will be released on Ba Da Bing
in early 2007 and will feature some accompaniment by Dirty
Three drummer Jim White. In the meantime, you can find more
information on Essie at her website: www.essiejain.com.
