Registration and login are required to submit items online and to check the status of current submissions.

Author Guidelines

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

Submission
Submit your article electronically as an email attachment, to kristin.orjasater@barnebokinstituttet.no or birgitte.eek@barnebokinstituttet.no. Please send the title of the article, author’s name, a short presentation of author, affiliation and postal address in a separate file. Do not include any contact information in the article itself.

Abstract
Note! All contributions must be accompanied by an English abstract regardless of the language of the article. The abstract should not exceed 1000 characters.

Length
An article: Approximately 30,000 characters, including space between words, in addition to bibliography and pictures/graphs/charts, abstract (300 words). Review: 15-20 000 characters.

Format
Use Times point 12 and double spacing throughout your manuscript, including indented quotations. Do not use any unnecessary formatting features (justification, hyphenation). Use one space between words. Use one tab stop in the beginning of a paragraph, except after headings and indented quotations. Do not use a blank line between paragraphs. Use a blank line before and after headings and indented quotations. Do not use quotation marks for indented quotations.

Quotations
Use double quotation marks; if there is a quotation within quotation, use single quotes. When quoting from existing texts in languages that are widely understood use the original text, and provide, if necessary, an existing translation into your own language in the endnote. If the work is not translated, provide your own translation, making a note of this (e.g. Lindgren 1981, 33; my translation).

Italics
Use italics for whole works (books, journals, newspapers). Use double quotes for parts of a work (articles, fairy tales, verses).

Illustrations/graphs/charts
Mark the place in the text where you suggest an illustration etc with square brackets, on a separate line, preferably between two paragraphs; e.g. [Ill. 1]. Illustrations etc should be counted as occupying half a page of text. Illustrations etc must be submitted as JPEG or TIFF files with a resolution of at least 300 dpi. For further information please see Guidelines.

In-text citations
Use Chicago citation system T style for in-text citations (Lindgren 1981, 33), see here. Place the citation after the direct or indirect quote.

Endnotes
Should be used, not footnotes.

Keywords
Provide 6-10 keywords. Avoid words already used in the title.

Bibliography
Use the Chicago Manual of Style B for the bibliographic list at the end of the article. List all works quoted or referred to in your text, alphabetically by author. If more than one work of an author is used, list them chronologically in descending order (oldest source first). If two works of the same author have been published in the same year, mark them as 2001a and 2001b in reference as well as bibliography.

Publication frequency Articles will be published successively as they become accepted and the final corrections of the master proof have been made. No regular issues will be published but a new volume will be started each calendar year (e.g. 2010: vol. 1, 2011: vol 2 etc). When posted online, articles will be assigned a DOI number (Digital Object Identifier), which gives the article a permanent identifier whereby it becomes possible to search and cite them without delay even though traditional bibliometric information (such as
issue number and page references) is lacking.

Permissions for copyrighted materials
The author must secure any necessary permission to reproduce copyrighted material, whether in print or in electronic format. The author must clear any permission fees before submitting his/her manuscript.

Som del av innsendingsprosessen må forfatteren krysse av for at manuskriptet oppfyller følgende krav, og manuskript som ikke oppfyller kravene og følger retningslinjene, kan bli returnert til forfatteren.

Vennligst send tittel på artikkelen, forfatternavn, institusjon og postadresse i en separat fil. Artikkelen skal IKKE inneholde kontaktinformasjon.

Vennligst legg ved en separat fil som inneholder tittel på artikkelen, forfatternavn, institusjon og postadresse, samt en kortfattet forfatterpresentasjon (ca. 3 linjer).

Abstrakt
NB! Alle bidrag må inkludere et engelsk abstrakt uansett publiseringsspråk. Abstraktet bør være på maksimalt 1000 tegn inkludert mellomrom.

Lengde
Artikkel: Cirka 30 000 tegn, inklusiv mellomrom, i tillegg til bibliografi og bilder/figurer/diagrammer, abstrakt (300 ord). Vitenskapelig anmeldelse: 15-20 000 tegn.

Format
Bruk Times New Roman, 12 punkt med dobbel avstand mellom radene gjennom hele manuskriptet, inklusive innrykkete sitat. Unngå bruk av unødvendige formateringer (f eks blokkjustering, orddeling). Ha mellomrom mellom hvert ord. Bruk et innrykk i begynnelsen av et avsnitt, med unntak av tekst som følger overskrifter eller innrykkete sitat. Unngå blank linje mellom avsnitt. Bruk blank linje før og etter overskrifter og innrykkete sitat. Anførselstegn skal ikke brukes i forbindelse med innrykket sitat.

Sitat
Bruk doble anførselstegn. Bruk enkle anførselstegn i forbindelse med et sitat innenfor et sitat. I forbindelse med sitat fra en eksisterende tekst på språk som forventes forstått, bruk originalteksten, og gi en oversettelse i en sluttnote. Bruk en utgitt oversettelse dersom en slik eksisterer. I tilfelle et verk ikke er blitt oversatt tidligere, bidra med din egen oversettelse og noter dette (f eks. Lindgren 1981, 33; egen oversettelse).

Kursivering
Bruk kursivering for hele verk (bøker, tidskrifter, aviser). Bruk doble anførselstegn for deler av et større verk (artikler, eventyr, vers).

Illustrasjoner/grafer/diagram
Marker ditt forslag til plassering av en illustrasjon i teksten med hakeparenteser på en egen linje, helst mellom to avsnitt, f.eks. [Ill. 1]. Illustrasjoner m.m. må sendes som en JPEG eller TIFF fil med en oppløsning på minst 300 dpi.

Referanser i løpende tekst
Bruk Chicago siteringssystem, T-style for referanser i løpende tekst (Lindgren 1981, 33), se her. Plasser referansen etter det direkte eller indirekte sitatet.

Sluttnoter
Bør brukes, ikke fotnoter.

Nøkkelord
Oppgi 6-10 nøkkelord. Unngå ord som allerede brukes i tittelen.

Publiseringsfrekvens
Artikler vil bli publisert suksessivt etter hvert som de blir akseptert, og de siste endringer markert i sluttkorrekturen er gjort. Tidskriften publiseres i årganger (e.g. 2010: vol. 1, 2011: vol 2 etc ), ikke i regelbundne hefter. Alle artikler får et DOI-nummer, som gir den enkelte artikkelen et permanent identifikasjonsnummer som skal brukes når det siteres fra dem. DOI-nummeret erstatter tradisjonell bibliometrisk informasjon (f. eks. heftenummer, sidereferanse).

Tillatelse for bruk av materiale underlagt opphavs- og kopieringsrett
Forfatteren må sikre seg eventuelle tillatelser til å reprodusere materiale som omfattes av opphavs- og kopieringsrett, i trykt eller elektronisk format. Eventuelle avgifter knyttet til tillatelse må betales innen forfatteren sender inn sitt manuskript.

7. The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all tables and legends are placed at the end of the manuscript following the references.
   Teksten er skrevet med dobbel linjeavstand, med bruk av en 12-punkts skrift, kursivering er brukt i stedet for understreking (unntatt med URL-adresser), og alle tabeller og bildetekster er plassert på slutten av manuskriptet etter referansene.
   
8. The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

9. If the manuscript will be submitted to a peer reviewed section of the journal, the instructions for securing Blind Review have been followed.

15. Do not use the lowercase l for 1 (one) or the uppercase O for 0 (zero)!

16. The space bar has only been used as a word separator. TAB has been used when identifying paragraphs or separating columns in tables.
    Mellomromstasten har kun vært brukt som skilletegn mellom ord. TAB har blitt brukt for å identifisere avsnitt eller skille kolonner i tabeller.
    
17. 'Italics' or single quotes have been used for emphasis. Avoid underlining.

18. Figure legends have been placed at the end of the article in the main manuscript, before text for tables and supplemental files, if any

19. Illustrations have been provided as separate files, not embedded in the main manuscript file. See guidelines for preparing illustrations/figures.

20. Each figure of a manuscript should be submitted as a single file. See separate guidelines for preparing figures.

21. Multi-panel figures (those with parts a, b, c, d etc) have been submitted as a single composite file that contains all parts of the figure. See separate guidelines for preparing figures.

22. As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with guidelines. Supplemental files are submitted in accordance with instructions and information is given on a separate page at the end of the main article.
