Peecol series are toys designed by eBoy and produced by Kidrobot. The idea behind it is modularity. A lot of people probably expected an eBoy toy to be pixel based, and that is what they did with the amazing Block Bob, but actually, one of the other aspect of eBoy’s work is the fact that their pictures are made of touthands of little entities which re-use or combine indefinitely. Peecol tries to transfer this principle into the world of toys which put them in the same family that Playmobils and Legos. To cut short, each peecol are in two parts, body and legs, that you can split and re-combine the way you want beetween different Peecols.

Because of the three dimension nature of the projects, I was involved in the projects when it came to the point that these toys needed to be sculpted to be lifted from the paper. Initially, the plan was that my 3D models would be “printed” out as prototypes with a procedure called Stereo Lithography to be approved and then sent to the factory for proper molding. I was exited by this project because it was a different application of the 3D tool for me. See the stuff done on the screen standing in front of you in the reel world, beeing able to touch or grab it is a quite nice feeling. Nevertheless the story doesn’t stop. Since I started texturing the actual toys with their textures, Kidrobot very sooned realised it would be interesting to also use those actual 3D models I had done to create some renders for the packagings. Photo shoots are quite expensive and makes things hard when it comes to maintain continuity of the picture for a projects that will see new figures coming out every six months.
