SPANISH EU PRESIDENCY

On 1 January, Spain assumed the presidency of the EU. For six months, the main task of the country which holds the presidency is to organise and manage the work of the Council of the European Union where the member states are represented.

3SUISSES: "FASHION WITH A CAUSE"
Fashion with a Cause is an initiative that seeks to engage the world of fashion on development issues – to mobilize well known personalities in the world of Fashion to communicate clearly and creatively on the Millennium Development Goals and on specific United Nations observances.

3Suisses is a French company (www.3suisses.com) that retails in clothing and textiles. As a Global Compact member, as of July 2000, 3Suisses are committed to working alongside international development agencies, NGOs, and international organizations to promote and participate in global initiatives supporting international causes.
On 8 March, International Women’s Day, 3Suisses will launch two specially designed clothing articles, created by Jean-Paul Knott, that will help raise funds for UNIFEM based projects supporting girl’s education and the empowerment of women.
Jean-Paul, a Friend of the United Nations (FUN) since 2006, has produced a t-shirt and pillowcases with the words “NoExcuse – End Poverty” handwritten on them.
Through its website 3Suisses will retail the products in support of UNIFEM and as part of the United Nations global campaign to promote the Millennium Development Goals which are at the forefront of international priorities for 2010.
This initiative would be repeated yearly in a bid to raise further awareness and funds for charitable causes.
3Suisses have also played an active role in promoting UNICEF’s donors fund for Haiti by inviting online shoppers to donate money. To date 105.000 visitors have visited UNICEF’s website through 3Suisses’ online platform.

3Suisses has joined the United Nations campaign against poverty, what are you doing for this campaign?
3Suisses has decided to join the United Nations campaign by teaming up with UNRIC and by implicating itself in actions linked to the Millennium Development Goals. At the heart of this partnership is Belgian designer Jean-Paul Knott, who has designed two unique items, a t-shirt and a pillowcase. The two items carry a universal message: "No Excuse, End Poverty".
Benefits from the sales of these items will go entirely to UNIFEM, the United Nations Development Fund for Women.
3Suisses, UNRIC and UNIFEM: 3 partners for the same goal, women´s rights. With Jean-Paul Knott, we will be launching the initiative on 2 March 2010.
Where can we see the partnership?
The 3Suisses website (3Suisses.fr) will feature the initiative prominently on its homepage, giving it maximum visibility throughout the month of March. With 9 million monthly visitors we hope to reach out to as many people as possible, with the main focus being on 8 March - International Women´s Day.
