Recent changes to EPA’s Energy Star Program requiring new products that meet ENERGY STAR specifications be certified by an EPA-recognized Certification Body, and the most recent foray into performance testing by the IECEE CB Scheme, an international system for mutual acceptance of test reports and certificates dealing with the safety of electrical products, are overturning a long held paradigm that performance and safety testing are mutually exclusive.
