Bargains Round Up: ‘Tis the Season (and Will Be For Five More Weeks)

November 18, 2006 at 3:17 am · Filed under Sale, Bras, Knickers, spacer , spacer

Now is about the time we start dreaming of spiked eggnog, ribbon-wrapped packages, and snowy evenings lounging by the Yule log with Brad Pitt. (Someone’s clearly been drinking too much of that spiked eggnog. Hey, a girl can dream.) Mostly because shops begin decorating for Christmas way too early. That said, we buy right into the hype - because it’s never too early to shop for Christmas. And we all know that the best Christmas presents are the ones we buy ourselves.

Mary Green’s week of silk boyshorts is on sale for £39 (down from £80) at www.becheeky.com">Be Cheeky. Days of the week knickers bring to mind vintage celluloid moments like Sally explaining the embroidered underwear set to Harry in When Harry Met Sally, “They don’t make Sunday. Because of God.” Mary Green’s set actually does include Sunday. We’re so refreshingly agnostic these days. Other nice sale items at Be Cheeky include the Boheme cami and short set and the velvet bow lace short. (Free world wide delivery.)

Strangely named but quite lovely, the eyelash galoon demi-bra is on sale for $21. We love the lace mesh peeking above the top. Other sale goodies from Bare Necessities: the Rosey bra and the lace crossover bra, (Ships within the U.S.)

If you really want to treat yourself (and we know you do), check out Faire Frou Frou for a vintage-esque velvet dot halter on sale for $80 (down from $158). Swiss dots on a sheer silk overlay are perfect with the matching shorts. Just right for lounging in front of the fire with Brad. Or a DVD of Brad. Whatever. (Ships to the U.S., Canada and Mexico.)

Hi lovely reader, we miss you!

We haven’t forgotten you, dear readers, we’re just swimming in knickers at the moment! Our lingerie sample sale is next Thursday in Edinburgh, and between sorting the stock, the catwalk show, and everything in between, we’ve been busy little bees. Don’t worry, though, we won’t neglect you! Amber will be treating you to a bargain post tomorrow, and normal posting will resume after Thanksgiving. Until then, why not check out a new brand we’ll be featuring in the sale, the beautiful Om London? They’re all about luxurious beaded tunics and beachwear, and we’re really excited to have them.

See you soon, reader!

Feel like a goddess in this maternity loungewear brand

Maternity lingerie is always a tricky one — you need to find something that’s comfortable and practical, but also something that compliments your beautiful bump and makes you feel like a yummy mummy. That’s why Bella Diosa immediately caught our eye — they’ve created flowy, Grecian-inspired loungewear that’s designed to celebrate maternity curves and make its wearer feel beautiful.

We love Bella Diosa’s names for their pieces — each one is a different goddess, from the powerful Athena to the beautiful Aphrodite (pictured above). Each piece drapes differently around the ubiquitous bump, from covering over it in an elegant cami to wrapping around it in a lovely black robe. There’s a variety of fabrics and textures mixed into the collection, but the overall black-and-pink palette gives a sexy, sensual feel to each piece. There’s also a wide range of sizes available, letting women find someting that will fit them just so. For mothers-to-be looking to glam up their loungewear, this is a perfect collection.

This lovely loungwear would also be a perfect Christmas present from a thoughtful family member or friend — prices range from $18 for a thong to $200 for a full capri-and-cami set, and there are a number of pieces in between to suit every budget. Our personal favourite, the Aphrodite set pictured above, is $80. You can check out all of the pieces at Bella Diosa’s online shop — we think this is limited to US only, but we’ll check with them to get the scoop!

Who knew ruffles could be so sexy?

Sometimes it’s easy to categorise lingerie — frilly and girly, dark and sleek, simple and chic — but sometimes designers manage to toe the line between boundaries with beautiful results. That’s why we love this “ruffle top” from high-end designer Andres Sarda: it’s cheeky, ruffly, and even polka-dotted, but girlfriend, isn’t it hot? It’s a great fusion of adult glamour and flirtatious youth, and makes you think that model is about to take her hair down at any moment.

Even when you take off the wedge boots and the glitzy photo, this lovely top shines through as a luxurious, flirtatious little bit of lingerie that will make you feel fantastic. There’s even a convertible ruffle bra to match, which is perhaps even more powerful in its cute-yet-sexy appeal. If you’re feeling this set too, the top is $135 at Azaleas and the bra is $82. Happy shopping!

Bargains Roundup: Some of Everything Edition

Mary Green’s polka dot hip huggers are silk guaze with kicky fuschia lace (if the lace seems a bit much, imagine slipping these on under those grey wool pants and black sweater look you’ve been sporting this winter). On sale for $10. Check out the rest of Mary Green’s sale for more low-priced knickers, chemises, and a printed georgette bra we really like but just couldn’t bring ourselves to picture, as the model/mannequin/S&M Barbie creeps us out with her staring eyes and limp cornsilk hair. (Delivers in the U.S. and internationally.)

Azalea’s is offering 25 percent off through November for shoppers with the code “luckymag”. Our favorite is Jezebel’s Risque underwire bra with its cheeky sheer cups and flirty roses. The mesh cups offer great support, even for larger sizes. $35, and don’t forget that discount. (We would do the math for you, but we don’t do math.) Check out the rest of Azalea’s sale offerings, here. In fact, peruse the whole darn site. Just remember: discount. (Azalea’s ships in the U.S. and overseas for large orders.)

Nothing like a pair of pajamas for Sunday morning coffee and pancakes. Princess Tam Tam’s silk capri pajamas are 100 percent silk crepe with lace trim, with a cut that won’t make you feel quite as frumpy as your flannel PJs. On sale for £45, down from £75. Go here for the rest of Idlewild’s clearance items. (Ships in the U.K. and overseas.)

Product Review: Emily tries Rigby & Peller’s “Giselle” knickers

November 9, 2006 at 9:10 pm · Filed under Knickers, spacer , spacer , Product Reviews

We’ve got a new product review for you, on a set we really love — the Rigby and Peller “Giselle” set. When we first featured the set we were excited about such a fashionable, colourful offering for larger cup sizes, and now Emily has tried out the matching boyshorts. As Emily has noted, boyshorts have become the “new thong” in their popularity over the last few seasons, and it sounds like she’s happy with the change!

Rigby & Peller - Giselle in Verde

(also available in latte)

Price: £33, $72
Get them at: Figleaves US, Figleaves UK, www.rigbyandpeller.com
Sizes: XS-XL
Range includes: Padded balcony bra, full cup bra, camisole, string, deep brief

The last year has seen the thong become a fashion no-no (but men still love them, and they suit pert posteriors which is why we still have a soft spot for them here) However, with big knickers like this to wear, we may yet be converted.

These black mesh tap-pant/French knickers style undies are trimmed with elegant mint ribbon, adding a touch of the Moulin Rouge to your look. The back is incredibly sheer, showing off your cheeks in all their glory, while the front has a double layer of the same mesh material, so that you can avoid the ‘pubes on display’ look.

With an elegant bow at the front, in the same ribbon as the trim, these sit flatteringly, and are sexy without being over the top.

The only slight problem is the way that they sit – they’re a tad uncomfortable around the crotch – though not so bad as to cause chafing. However, they’re not to be recommended under trousers as there’s a risk that they may show through, due to the cut of the ‘legs’.

That said, you feel very sexy wearing these, and the vintage look means you can immerse yourself in hunky GI fantasies. A good pair of pants to wear if you want to feel that extra bit special.

The Scores

Comfort: 4/5
Sexiness: 4/5
Value for money: 4/5
VPL risk: 2/5
Practicality: 4/5
Style: 5/5
