Kahnah' bek

Crosby, Minnesota, is a city rich in history, abundant in resources and blessed with natural beauty. From 1910 to the early 1980s, the lifeblood of the Cuyuna Range flowed red with iron ore. And the heart of the Cuyuna Range was, and is, Crosby. Today, the mines have closed and are filled with crystal-clear water, and the hills of overburden are covered in poplar and spruce. More than half our city is located within the 5,000 acre Cuyuna Country State Recreation Area, which has more than 24 miles of natural shoreline, seven miles of paved bike trail, and soon, nearly 25 miles of world-class, IMBA certified mountain bike trails

Our major industry today is the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center, whose promotional slogan is “Crosby Cares.” CRMC employs more than 700 people and is the county’s third largest employer. Heartwood Senior Living, the Hallett Cottages and the Crosby Eye Clinic contribute to our healthcare-based economy.

Crosby is a great place to live and play. Come see for yourself.

Kahnah' bek - the story of our Serpent

According to the June 8, 1977 issue of the Crosby-Ironton Courier

The serpent was purchased by the Crosby Chamber of Commerce, currently the Cuyuna Lakes Chamber of Crosby.

The serpent in Crosby Memorial Park on Serpent Lake was scuplted by Creative Display Inc. of Sparta WI

It is made of styrofoam at weighs 2,500 pounds.

It is 20 feet high and 25 feet long

It includes 20 shades (or more) of color

It was delivered prior to statewide firemen's convention held in Crosby the first part of June 1977.

Later in 1977 the Crosby Chamber of Commerce offered a contest to name the Serpent. The winner was announced in the Aug. 16, 1978 (yes, more than a year later).

Maxine (Archibald) Larson of Anoka and Bay Lake, was the winner of the contest

The name, Kahnah' bek!
