I love chicken. It’s no secret. I especially LOVE chicken thighs. That is why a favourite of my recipes that I have is my Asian Hoisin Chicken. My friends, boyfriend and I love this chicken because it’s incredibly tender, juicy and tasty. It’s kinda like the soy chicken you get in Chinese restaurants BUT it has more flavour than just soy sauce. It’s not difficult at all to prepare and only takes about an hour to cook in the oven. It is also pretty amazing when it is grilled or barbequed because the flavour really comes out.

So this is my recipe for some really tender, moist and delicious chicken that goes great some rice or maybe even some garlic bread. Some of these ingredients you might be able to find in your grocery store or depending on where you are … Maybe at some local Asian store.

[NOTE] the marinade mixture is really up to your liking in taste. So add as much as you like or little as you like[/NOTE]

Ingredients:

Chicken (thighs or legs or whatever you like)
Hoisin Sauce
Soy Sauce
Honey
Salt (sea salt is better for you)
Pepper
Garlic (3 to 4 cloves)
Half a lemon

Instructions:

In a big bowl, mix together the Hoisin, soy, and honey. Like said above, add as much or as little of each ingredient as you like. Just a little note that soy sauce adds to the saltiness so if you like that then think about that. Season the mixture with a little salt and pepper and squeeze half the lemon into the mixture as well.

Start dicing the garlic cloves and put them into the mixture. You can start tasting here and there and add more of the ingredients to how to you like. I like a good balance of salty and sweet so I usually like to play around with the Hoisin and honey. If you feel lime you are not getting any hint of sweetness from the honey, then try some sugar. I just like honey because it is healthier for you.

Once you have figured out the perfect taste for yourself, add the chicken into the mixture and coat it well with your hands. Leave the chicken in the mixture and marinade.

If you want to really marinade and have really tasty chicken then leave the marinade chicken in the fridge for 24 hours. If you don’t have that kind if time then try to at least leave it in the fridge for an hour just so the chicken can soak as much of the marinade as it can.

When time to cook, preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Put the chicken on your cooking pan skin-side up and cook for 45 minutes to 1 hour. When you puncture the chicken with a fork and the juices are clear, that’s another sign that they are done and ready to eat.

You are welcome to add any more spices or flavourings to the marinade mixture. That’s how I figured it out. I have recently learned that adding some fresh rosemary makes it incredible too!! Or you can try it without the lemon. This changes the taste a little as well. That’s what is awesome about this recipe. With the basic soy sauce, hoison sauce, and honey, you can experiment with whatever else have to add in and create your own taste! That’s how I have been creating different flavours based on this very recipe.
