leap year of yore

I kind of wish I had done this little project again THIS leap year, but honestly, it would have been mostly pictures of me in my cubicle at work doing Nerdy Things That Made My Head Hurt A Little Bit, so really not that interesting. But I went back in my Flickr archives to 2008, when I participated in a photo project that challenged us to take one picture every hour on Leap Day in order to chronicle what we did with our extra day that year.

Two words: BABY MAGGIE.

(She was 11 months old.)

My old computer! Who died a tragic, early death by way of a twice-fried graphics card!

SNOW. Apparently enough that I skidded and slid and ended up canceling a work thing.

HAAAAAAAAAAA REMEMBER AOL INSTANT MESSENGER??!?!!! LOLZ!

Fast forward a few hours… Daddy and Maggie playtime. I CAN’T TAKE IT! GAH!

And then we watched 24.

This leap year was not a whole lot different: no snow, but work stuff and sitting on the couch watching tv for a bit after dinner and playtime and putting the girls to bed. But of course, this playtime involved TWO kids. So it was… louder, basically.

What did you do on your Extra Day this year?

Just a quick post today to tell you about something I’ve been meaning to write about for a few days but… well, videos of my insane toddler were more pressing to share, OBVIOUSLY.

Anyway! Do you have a smart phone? Or one of those tablet doo-hickeys? Do you constantly feel (like I do!) that you’re the last one to find out about the latest cool app or game? (I swear, I was the last person on earth to know about Angry Birds.) Enter appSmitten! (that link is an affiliate link, just FYI) I just signed up myself last week but so far I found a nifty flashlight app for my Android phone, and a new photo editing tool that I’ve been playing around with a bit. They hand-pick apps for you based on your device preferences (iPhone, Android, iPad, etc) and send you an email now and then with the details. You can also search through their site on your own, where they have all of their apps organized into categories for easy browsing.

My favorite thing about downloading apps is when I can click a link on my computer and it automatically downloads to my phone. I MEAN SERIOUSLY. IT’S THE FUTURE, YOU GUYS. Also: MAGIC!

So there you go- happy Wednesday! Go find some apps!

Audrey’s Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

We’re not entirely sure what prompted the start of the 20 minute tantrum. My best guess is that she spied the bag of Playdoh in the top kitchen cabinet at some point and thought it looked fun and shiny (even though she has never seen What It Is Or Does) and when we told her no, everything she demanded and was denied for the next half an hour was a very, very big problem. Especially when I denied her Maggie’s Nintendo DS. WOOBOY.

Girlfriend is full of piss and vinegar, 24/7.

I should also point out that Maggie did not do this kind of a thing until she was older and could talk. (This is one my favorites. I mean: BROKEN CHEESE, YOU GUYS. THE HORROR!) (Yes, I like to videotape my children having mental breakdowns. I win at Mothering!) Dealing with tantrums from a verbal child was a completely different thing than dealing with it from a 17 month old who says ‘Daddy’ and ‘uh-oh’ and… that’s basically it. Right now, with Audrey, we’re all WTFOMGG???!?!!!??? and do our best to explain over the screeching why we said no. Because we KNOW she understands US, we just can’t understand HER. So. GOOD TIMES!

You’re welcome for the free birth control!
