As humans, we’re hard-wired to look for mates that we’re attracted to. It’s a key part of forming a lasting relationship and is simply part of our physiology—attraction equates to youth, beauty and fertility, so it’s natural that we want to look for a partner that can meet those ideals. It all comes down to the most basic of human needs, reproduction, because it’s in our nature to want to pass on our genes and to do so with a mate that will pass on equally as attractive ones. It’s been that way for thousands of years and isn’t likely to change any time soon, and the fact of the matter is that attraction can be the biggest single determinant of relationship success—without it, there’s no hope.
