You Need More Inspiration?

Seriously?  An out of shape mom attempting speed skating at the age of 41 isn’t enough to spur you on to get outside your comfort zone and just do something

Well…when I’m feeling blah and meh and  not wanting to get out there and live life to the fullest, these are some of the people who inspire me.

EVERYDAY INSPIRATION

spacer This is Karma. She kicked cancer’s ass at the young age of 30 and is now working her way through her bucket list. Although when you’ve faced death, you don’t want to call it a bucket list since kicking the bucket isn’t really a great motivator.  So she’s created a lotto list.  She’s also trying to convince me to jump out of a plane with her.  She’s a bit crazy that way.  You can follow her journey at The Lotto List.

This is Lisa. She’s a stay at home mom to two wonderful kids, one who has an unbalanced chromosomal translocation.  So Lisa quit her job as a teacher and became a stay at home mom and an advocate for her daughter.  But this isn’t a blog about being a martyr.  Lisa’s human just like the rest of us – she has her ups and downs. And *that’s* the inspiring part.  Through it all, she looks life in the face, says screw you, and keeps going. Once you start reading her blog Forever In Mom Genes, you’ll love her as much as I do.

spacer Heather Hamilton experienced an unimaginable loss when her three year old son Zack passed away on March 10, 2011.  Now she is working tirelessly to create a room in Zack’s honour at the York Central Hospital.  You can read and be inspired by Heather and her beautiful boy Zack on her personal blog.  And you can donate and help make a Zack’s Dream Room a reality here.   If Heather’s strength of character and undying love for her child doesn’t inspire you, I don’t know what will.  Live Well, Laugh Much, Love Often.

SPORTY INSPIRATION

spacer Kevin Jagger has a cool story.  After watching the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, he fell in love with speed skating.  So much so, that he quit his job as an investment banker to start training full time to try and make Canada’s National Long Track Speed Skating Team.  And that’s currently what he’s doing…..chasing his dreams on a set of very sharp blades.  He documents it all on his Long Track, Long Shot website.

spacer This is Kaari.  Kaari and I are similar in that we both started speed skating later in life.  When she first started, Kaari couldn’t skate and wasn’t able to make it around the entire oval (she’s a long track skater – that’s 500 m).  Now she totally kicks ass although *she’ll* say she doesn’t.  But listen to me, not her.  She totally does.  Check out her blog here where she documents her journey.

    Sharon,
Great post and having a group of women around supporting you is so important, we all need that. When reading the tin-bits of information for each of these women I realize that being transparent to our own challenges makes us all heros of our life and the gift that it provides to others that might be going through something they might not think is worth talking about is priceless. I admire each and everyone of you for your courage and determination:) @sociallysavvy4u

That is exactly what I needed this morning. Some serious inspiration from three (four if you count you, too, Sharon!) amazing ladies. Thanks for sharing them. They are all amazing.

And right on for the speed skating stuff. That makes me almost want to take up rollerderby. So very, very almost…

Roller derby scares me. At least in speed skating if you get hit it’s unintentional spacer

You have seriously great taste in women! These three amazing ladies are certainly tops in my How It’s Done book and I am awed by the way they embrace life, see what’s there, deal and choose to be present on the planet. There is a lot to learn from their example.
