Welcome to the Fanlore wiki! Fanlore is a collaborative site by, for, and about fans and fan communities that create and consume fanworks. Here, you can read about fan activities, fannish vocabulary, and the histories of fan communities -- and add your own voice, memories, and experiences to our collective story.

Not sure where to start? To begin reading Fanlore, click on a category under the "Browse" menu on the left. Also, check out our New Visitor Portal, which offers an introduction to how Fanlore works.

Anyone can create and edit pages here: if you're a fan, we want your voice! Here's how to dive in to Fanlore, in three easy steps:

  1. Start by logging in (or creating an account and then logging in.)
  2. If you're new to wiki editing, you might want to read our tutorial.
  3. Think of a subject you care about, and use the search box in the upper left-hand corner of the page to search for it. If there's already a page on that subject, you can edit that page and add your perspective, memories, links, references, etc. If there isn't already a page on that subject, you'll be prompted to create one...and off you go!

Fanlore is a project of the Organization for Transformative Works. Find out more about Fanlore.

February 25, 2012

Hello, everyone! The wiki committee just held its first meeting of 2012. Our roster for this year is listed on Fanlore:Wiki Committee. We hope to get the ball rolling on Fanlore forums (more on that later), defeating spam, and lots of other projects around the wiki! As always if you have questions, concerns, or suggestions, feel free to contact us.

Two new challenges: Fanlore Valentines! [1]

  1. Look up the Fanlore article on a fanwork you love to see if any reviews of the work are quoted on the page. If not, express your love by finding a review and adding a brief quote (with link) to the page. (If Fanlore doesn't have a page for this fanwork at all, feel free to start the page. Tell us why you love it!)
  2. What challenges, fests, gift exchanges, etc., are running right now? Check to see if Fanlore has articles about them. If the article exists, add up-to-date information; if the article doesn't exist, create it!

Fanlore Chat is OPEN

Fanlore has a permanently open chatroom! Hang out and chat while editing. Staffers are available for questions and chat also!

We've also added a News page and a social networking community at Dreamwidth, fanlore, where you can ask questions, receive updates, or just hang out with other editors and the fanlore committee.
