WMRA News for 2012: More financial support to Nations and to Athletes. - 19 January 2012
spacer The WMRA Annual meeting at Monaco was again a highlight to further establish the Sport of Mountain Running working with the infrastructure of the IAAF.
The Director of Marketing, Erhan Basoglu, has acquired substantial backing from sponsors who wish to share their passion with Mountain Running (further sponsorship backing will be announced soon). His contribution was applauded by the council members and the IAAF delegates.
All WMRA Council member work for WMRA as unpaid and passionate volunteers. All the money raised is used for mountain running activity and for this reasons WMRA Council unanimously decided:
1) the prize fund for the World Mountain Running Grand Prix 2012 will be doubled to $20 000 (exactly 18.000,00 euros), without asking nothing more than in the past years to the LOC of the races  (WMRA will pay this prize found at the Final GP race in Turkey);
2) the contributions for the International Youth Cup 2012 will be increased to 300,00 euros for complete teams male and female (six athletes it means to receive 600,00 euros) and 100,00 euros for incomplete teams traveling internationally to the event.

28. World Mountain Running Championships 2012 in Italy: from Tem - Ponte di Legno to Tonale pass. - 26 December 2011
spacer The WMRA is delighted to announce like venue of the 28. World Mountain Running Championships 2012 the villages of Temù (1.144 m.s.l.) and of Ponte di Legno (1.258 m.s.l.) and the experienced LOC under the direction of mr. Innocente Agostini, father of Andrea Agostini winner of the World Junior men title in the 5. World Mountain Running Trophy on 1989 at Die (France). FIDAL - just a few days ago - sent official application bid for this event.
The candidate venue has previously held many high quality national competitions and will again prove an outstanding host with the support of event sponsors that include, among others, Lombardia Region and Comunità Montana Valle Camonica.

The 3. African Mountain Running Championship launches 30. World Mountain Running Championships 2014! - 30 November 2011
spacer Ugandan, Geofrey Kosuro, and Nigerian, Dung Janet, are African Champion 2011, leading their Nation to win African title in the Team list.
But, at Obudu, this year, not only the athletes were in first row, but also the LOC, with its Chairman William Archibong, and the AFN, with the Vice President, Engr. Ibrahim Shehu Gusau, General Secretary, Maria Wophil, and other Council member as Gloria Obajimi, that - with the fantastic support of the highest political authorities of Nigeria from the Governor of Cross River State,  Sen. Liyel Imoke CON - have officially announced the candidature to organize the 30. World Mountain Running Championships in 2014 on the occasion of the tenth edition of the race, in presence of WMRA President, Bruno Gozzelino, and WMRA Council member, Erhan Basoglu, present in Nigeria also for preparing for 2012 a new track of the Obudu race, respecting WMRA technical regulations.
Coming back to the races, in the men African Championships, Geofrey Kosuro (finishing fourth in the overall list of the Obudu International race, behind three Ethiopian runners) defeated Kenyan, Ondara Macdonald, silver medallist (and fifth in the Obudu race), and his nationl fellow, Thomas Ayeko, bronze medallist (eight in the Obudu race, after Kenyan, Romo Philemon, and Ethiopian, Abshero Ayele). Five time European Champion, Turkish Ahmet Arslan finished in 18 place, after having arrived to the venue of the competition just few hours before the race, due a long journey. Uganda men team took gold medal in front of Eritrea, silver, and Nigeria, bronze, instead Egypt finished in fourth position.
In the women African Championship only Nigerian runners were officially untried by the National Athletic Federation: so the winner arrived in front of her countrywomen Nancy Mathew (silver), Aderonke Olumudi (bronze) and Deborah Pam, fourth. In the women team  list no other Countries sent official team despite the fact that Ethiopian and Kenyan runners were present in the race, taking the first six places in the Obudu race.
