Workplace Safety

Disturbing paint in buildings constructed before 1978 can be hazardous to the people doing the work.

Unsafe work can expose residents and neighbors to lead poisoning from the
paint chips and dust.  And workers’ children may be at risk because their parents bring contaminated clothing back to their own homes.

State and federal regulations require the contractors protect workers and residents by using lead-safe work practices during building renovation, repair or painting of homes, childcare facilities, or schools.

Lead-safe practices involve containing the work area, minimizing dust, and cleaning up thoroughly.
