A HUGE Rockabilly Chili Thanks!

We're still tabulating how much you helped us raise by eating mass quantities of chili and sipping on even greater quantities of suds. We'll let you know when it's all counted.

But right now we need to say THANKS! It was an amazing day and it would not have been possible without all of you. Seriously, thank you. And by "you" we mean all the people who attended, all the restaurants, all the volunteers, the MSOE bar and cleaning staff and facilities manager and every last one of you who got the word out. This event literally helps keep WMSE on the air. We can't tell you how much that means to us.

Here are the winners and runners-up as voted on by you.

Best Meat  - Hinterland
Runner Up - Palms Bistro

Best Veggie - Riverwest Co-op (4th year in a row)
Runner Up - Brewed Cafe

Most Unique - American Euros
Runner Up  - Cafe India

Best Heat - Ball n' Biscuit
Runner Up - Good Harvest Market

Best Display - Brewed Cafe
Runner Up  - Red Rock Saloon

Every Tuesday at 8PM since February of 2005, WMSE has welcomed a different Milwaukee-area artist into the studios to perform a full set live on the airwaves, made possible by our amazing sound engineer Billy Cicerelli. DJs Radio Dave and Bob Midnight take turns hosting Local/Live which includes an interview with the performing artist and also features recorded music from other local artists .

Local/Live: March 6 - Canopies

We're reaching out to people entrenched in the Milwaukee music community and asking them to curate a month's worth of Local/Live. First up, Mark Goldstein of the excellent Seizure Chicken blog. Mark has been supporting local music in a big way the last few years, even holding his first local-heavy, two-night festival this past fall. We asked Mark to pick three of his favorite Milwaukee bands and we couldn't be more enthused with his picks. First up:

Canopies make post-modern pop songs and all sorts of psychedelic wildness. Drop in and feel the dancey mind-lubing landscapes of their analogue synthesizers and echoey vocals. It’s music to play in a dark room by one’s self with only the light of a bubbling lava lamp but also powers all-night parties like a 10-story Tesla Coil.
