OCZ ROADSTER 1GB USB 2.0 MICRO FLASH DRIVE

(11-14-2006)

OCZ's second introduction of a tiny micro flash drive is indeed another winner. It is small, it is robust, and best of all, it is incredibly handy. Carrying your car keys around is twice as hard as carrying this six gram monster around. That is right, it weighs six grams which is lighter than a soda cracker.

ANTEC NINE HUNDRED ULTIMATE GAMER'S CASE

(11-13-2006)

So, does the Nine Hundred live up to all the hype? Is it, as Antec touts, the Ultimate Gamer Case? If cooling and configuration options are the benchmarks we're looking at, it just may be. With four case fans included (three 120's and a massive 200mm top fan) and a distinctive look incorporating a chevron side window and mesh front, the Nine Hundred brings a lot to the table in both performance and aesthetics.

UBUNTU: THE IMPERFECT OPERATING SYSTEM ALTERNATIVE TO WINDOWS

(11-10-2006)

Ubuntu needs to be more user-friendly. Although the operating system has a beautiful interface, and is quite easy to useeven for those who have never tried, or even seen Linux beforeit is still really difficult to get things up-and-running in Ubuntu when there is a glitch.

Beginners Guides: Stopping Spam @ PCSTATS.com

Posted by Nathan @ 10:58 AM (EST)

"Besides being the best illustration to date of Monty Python's deathless grasp on popular culture, junk email, unsolicited commercial email, or good old 'spam', is an issue that affects every email user, and by extension, every computer user. The use of email as a mass-marketing tool has become an epidemic particular to the current global use of computers in our society. The best way of dealing with spam currently is through avoidance and redirection. If you use email, sooner or later you will start receiving spam; but if you can redirect this spam to a location where you don't have to look at it, it won't do you any harm."

Seventeam ST-420BKV 420 W Power Supply @ Hardware Secrets

Posted by Nathan @ 10:58 AM (EST)

"Even though power supplies from Seventeam aren't sold in the USA retail market, they are very popular in several other countries, due to its low cost. In fact, it seems that Seventeam is the OEM manufacturer for some other brands - we discovered that the external power supply series from XG/MGE, Magnum, is in fact Seventeam Fanless series. ST-420BKV is a 420 W power supply without PFC. Let's take an in-depth look on this power supply to check whether this unit is good or not and how it is compared to competing products."

Thermaltake Jungle 512 Bifurcated Fin Heatsink Review @ Frostytech.com

Posted by Nathan @ 10:56 AM (EST)

"Thermaltake's Jungle 512 socket 775 heatsink looks like it packs a pretty heavy punch.... but does it really? It's monsterous 92mm PWM fan draws upwards of 1.0Amp at full speed, and its red fan blades spin with enough force to take a big chunk out of careless fingers too. Below the big fan is a circular array of bifurcated aluminum fins, and at the Jungle 512's heart a large copper slug; all fairly standard stuff for an Intel socket 775 heatsink. The Intel 'Prescott FMB2' compliant Thermaltake Jungle 512 heatsink is equipped with a 32x92x92mm 4-pin PWM fan that rotates at between 2300 and 3600RPM. When installed on a PWM fan compatible socket 775 motherboard, this finger chopping fan scales its speed to meet the immediate thermal demands of the processor, without creating too much unnecessary noise."

Revoltec Graphic Freezer Pro review @ DH

Core 2 Extreme vs. Zalman CNPS9700 LED, CNPS9500 AT and Others @ Digit-Life

Posted by Nathan @ 10:54 AM (EST)

"Intel had been preparing the revolution well in advance. In summer, 2006, the corporation launched several series of processors with the "absolutely new" Intel Core microarchitecture, which retained only crumbs from NetBurst (some crumbs!) Its basis was inherited (and improved) from Pentium III Pentium M Core Duo. The key advantage of this microarchitecture is significantly increased performance at significantly reduced power consumption. Let's dwell upon the latter."

XTracPads Hybrid mousepad @ Geekextreme.com

Posted by Nathan @ 10:54 AM (EST)

"It's truly a great representation of a hybrid: smooth feel of a hard pad with the suppleness of a cloth pad. Thus, what makes this pad different is the hybrid surface that combines the traditional cloth weave with an integrated plastic. The pads may look the same but the Hybrid's surface is much smoother and rigid than a true cloth pad."

Fatal1ty in rAge - Spending time with the World's Best Gamer @ Tweaktown

Posted by Nathan @ 10:54 AM (EST)

"Fatal1ty proves consistently why he is the best, with his undying dedication and commitment to the gaming community in general. I approached John and asked him if he would be interested to play all the worlds leading players in an exclusively hyped event to see where he stands right now - he said, yes he would love to invite them all for a gaming LAN, but not to compete, rather to do a blood drive. Totally caught off guard, I had to ask him to elaborate. He explained that he would invite them to give blood at the LAN to bolster the depleted blood-banks in most countries. This kind of road trip would be an awesome event and anybody interested in helping push something like this, please contact the Fatal1ty website."

ASUS P5W64WS Professional Motherboard @ Bjorn3D

Posted by Nathan @ 10:53 AM (EST)

A month passed and I was getting quite antsy and in the process reading everything I could about the experiences of others and the motherboard(s) they chose. To keep an already long story from getting too much longer lets just say I woke one day, had my wake up caffeine, switched on the computer to get some news and clicked on the link to one of the sites I use for research. There was a veritable plethora of information about a new workstation styled board from ASUS that was churning out some amazing numbers, the P5WDG2 WS Professional; in just over a week I had one. Normally the story would end here but as with any other high-tech computer product ASUS shortly after this announced the birth of a very similar board with even newer and more exciting features, the P5W64 WS Professional. Well I was not going to spend another tidy sum on a new motherboard when the one I had was working just fine.

Sony's PS3 features a Blu-ray player, Bluetooth wireless controllers, built in WiFi, and a 40 or 60 GB hard drive. With all of the excitement and stores shipments getting cut, and cut again only a handful of people would be getting the system on launch day. For this reason the die-hard Sony fans and people looking to make money selling the system on e-bay headed to their local stores to camp out and be the first in line to get the system.

ATI Radeon X1950 Pro vs. Nvidia GeForce 7900GS @ TechSpot

It's quite often that we find ATI and Nvidia rebadging their products. As it happens many times, relaunching an existing graphics card with a new name, tweaked settings and a better price point can do wonders. While there are many examples of successfully rebadged products, there are also those that have gone wayward.

Corsair's Dominator Memory Modules Review @ TR

Posted by Nathan @ 10:51 AM (EST)

WE DON'T COVER MEMORY much here at TR-it's largely a commodity product; performance doesn't vary between modules running at the same speed and timings; and true overclocking potential is difficult to quantify with a limited sample size. However, when we spotted Corsair's innovative new Dominator memory modules and cooler at Computex, we knew we had to get our hands on a set to test. At the time, the DIMMs were running at an effective 1224MHz with surprisingly reasonable 5-5-5-15 timings and what appeared to be relatively simple air cooling.

Akasa AK-961 Socket 775 Heatsink Review @ Frostytech.com

Posted by Nathan @ 3:11 AM (EST)

"The Akasa AK-961 heatsink is designed for socket 775 Intel Pentium 4/D and Core 2 Duo processors. The AK-961 heatsink's fan spins at speeds of 500-3400RPM, which is slightly more than the AK-960E can muster. Also, the fan on the AK-961 is internally illuminated with blue LEDs and the motor is suspended from the frame; an open fan frame style which yields quieter operation and better airflow at really low impeller speeds. Akasa's AK-961 heatsink is made from a collection of very thin stacked aluminum fins with zippered interlocking tabs, three copper heatpipes, and a small block of copper at the base."

Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about the Playstation 3 @ OCModShop

Posted by Nathan @ 3:10 AM (EST)

The PS3 was released on November 11, 2006 in Japan. It will be released on November 17, 2006 in the United States and Canada, and in March, 2007 in Europe and Australasia. It will ship in two initial configurations. Sony officially unveiled the PS3 to the public on May 16, 2005 during an E3 conference. A functional version of the console was not at E3 2005 or the Tokyo Game Show in September 2005, although at both events, demonstrations were held on devkits (e.g. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots) and comparable PC hardware, and video footage based on the predicted PS3 specifications was produced (e.g. Mobile Suit Gundam). It was not until E3 2006 that games were shown on actual PlayStation 3 systems. In preparation for launch, Sony demonstrated 27 playable PS3 titles during the Tokyo Game Show in September 2006 on final hardware.

EDOVA Innovations X-Pad Laptop Platform @ Bjorn3D

There is a growing trend in notebook computers which could put you in harms way. Since the recent discovery of thousands of defective notebook batteries being used in many of the most popular brands, explosion and heat related injuries have been on the rise. Even though the majority of notebooks are using stable batteries, most systems are so powerful now that the user is still not free and clear of potential burns during routine use. Most users will agree that the term laptop may no longer apply, as the aptly named devices are showing up less and less on a users lap.

Overclocking the GeForce 8800's @ Tweaktown

And if it does, how much further can the 8800 GTX go to make it worth your while to spend those extra hard earned dollars on it, as opposed to the GTS variant?

In this article were not going to look at the graphics cards, weve already done that. Instead we will have a quick look at our test system setup and what we got with our overclocks. From there its straight into the benchmarks as thats all we really need to see here today."

NVIDIA G80 - Foxconn GeForce 8800 GTX Review @ EliteBastards

Posted by Nathan @ 3:05 AM (EST)

We may as well kick things off with a simple fact - The G80 core which powers the GeForce 8800 is huge. Built on TSMC's 90 nanometre process, G80 consists of a whopping 681 million transistors, substantially more than even Intel's recently released Core 2 Quad CPUs. Of course, this kind of transistor count on what is now a pretty mature manufacturing process means a big (and thus expensive) die underneath the heatspreader which houses the core and helps to output heat from the GPU to its hefty cooling system.
