Sand Gnats to Begin 2012 Season

spacer There’s nothing better on a cool spring night than being at the ballpark with family and friends. And starting April 5, Savannah’s minor league baseball team, the Savannah Sand Gnats, will open their exciting 2012 season. A Class-A affiliate with the New York Mets, Sand Gnats baseball is a favorite with locals and visitors alike. Appropriately named after Savannah’s infamous pesky insects, the team plays in Historic Grayson Stadium from early April though late August. While you’re there, grab a hotdog and some Southern boiled peanuts, meet the Sand Gnats’ mascot, Gnate the Gnat, and of course enjoy some great baseball! We are proud to have the oldest working minor league baseball stadium in the nation in Historic Grayson Stadium. Originally built in 1926, baseball legends such as Hank Aaron, Babe Ruth, Mickey Mantle and Jackie Robinson have graced the field at the corner of Bee Road and Victory Drive. It’s a Savannah tradition that has as much history as the city itself, and if you’re visiting Savannah, it’s an absolute must-see. For the 2012 schedule, visit the Sand Gnats’ official website. Grab your tickets online or at the door!
