NEW FORMAT!! By popular demand, the course now consists of three residential retreats in February, April and July. In between these there is an online programme of study into Experiential Anatomy + an online forum for keeping in touch with the group. This allows for the course to be more accessible to people from other countries. Altogether the residentials consist of 90 hours of teaching spread over 12 days. The online courses in between the residentials require about 3-4 hours a week. All hours qualify for CPD requirements.

What is the Postgraduate Programme about?  spacer

This course is a masterclass with Bill Palmer, the originator of Movement Shiatsu, a style of work in which the client is more active within the therapy, in which the therapist assists the client's process rather than performing 'diagnosis' and 'treatment'.

The course covers:

  • Making Shiatsu interactive and experiential

  • Using Movement to develop awareness

  • Processing emotional issues through the body

  • Working with chronic issues.

  • Using Developmental Movement and the Six Divisions in Shiatsu

  • Free access to SEED online courses on Experiential Anatomy

The course is structured with a large amount of individually tutored practical work to make sure that you can really integrate this approach with your normal Shiatsu style. The insights and techniques are meant to ENHANCE rather than replace your normal work

What do you get from the course?  spacer

Successful Completion of the course obtains a Postgraduate Diploma from the School for Experiential Education. The primary point of the course is to develop your personal authority in your own work, not to train you in Movement Shiatsu.

However, the course can be repeated, and many students do come back, because each year covers the same material from different angles. When a participant has developed enough understanding of Movement Shiatsu and integrated it into their own work, they will obtain a Postgraduate Diploma in Movement Shiatsu and will be given authority to advertise themselves as practising Movement Shiatsu.

The hours count towards post-graduate training required for MRSS certification and Continuous Professional Development.

Finally, and most importantly, we expect the course to re-vitalise your Shiatsu, to make your relationships with clients more contactful and spontaneous and, hopefully, make your work and life more fun.

If you want to taste the work before committing to the full course, there are several workshops Bill is teaching in 2012 (see www.seed.org/courses.shtml).

You can also apply to do the first residential of the course without commitment and decide whether to continue at the end.

The First Residential (can be taken without commitment to the others):   spacer

  • The Development of movement guided by Earth and Metal meridians. how to work with these meridians to help a client embody the capacities of Asking for Help, Accepting Support, Making Space to be yourself and Authentic Expression.

  • Six Channel Qi Gong: A sequence of exercises which strengthen the Six Divisions.

  • Techniques for working with chronic conditions

  • Working with the field of interaction between client and practitioner.

All the residentials focus on personal development and in using the information taught to explore yourself and change your own life. We believe that clients only respond to work which the therapist has digested in themselves, so we try to make sure that each person has experienced the function of the techniques taught instead of just understanding the ideas.

The final residential will end with a graduation party.

What is the cost of the course?  spacer

The full fee for the course is £1075. If you pay (or commit to paying) in full by October 1st 2012 then you will receive an early bird discount of £50. In addition we ask each person to pay their own accommodation costs for the residentials, which currently come to £230 per residential if you sleep in the house, £145 if you camp, both including three delicious vegetarian meals a day. (The accomodation prices are subject to change if the venue increases their prices)

We welcome payment by regular instalments, and can even arrange the regular payments to suit your budget. Just ask.

What are the dates?

Residential 1: Thursday 31st January 2013 - Sunday 3rd February 2013

Residential 2: Thursday 18th - Sunday 21st April 2013

Residential 3: Thursday 11th - Sunday 14th July 2013

All residentials take place in Gaunts House is a rambling mansion set in vast estates in Dorset. Richard Glyn, the lord of the manor, has turned it into a charitable foundation for alternative education. It is a wonderful location to do an intensive residential, especially in September and May, when we are there.
