spacer More new Threadless! Same $10 sale!

They reprinted Pillow Fight, and added a polo - check ‘em out. Not 100% sure about the polo, but I’m sure people besides myself could pull it off pretty well.

Apple Talk

Disco? Burn instead.
Posted at November 4, 2006 7:03 am by Colin in AppleTalk | 4 Comments »

Many of you have probably heard of Disco. There has been quite a lot of marketing for this app, and many even bought it on MacZOT sight unseen.

But lately, many people have had some not so nice things to say about Disco.

The interface is awash in lifeless grays, and the functionality isn’t all that attractive — it doesn’t do much more than the Finder. After playing with it for 20 minutes or so, I can’t say I was impressed. And the much-touted “smoke” feature really doesn’t seem very cool at all. It looks pretty cheezy and is clearly limited to a square box.

My recommendation: Don’t bother with Disco. There are a host of disc burning apps besides the 900lbs gorilla, Toast. Instead, try Burn. It’s open source, has a simple, standard looking UI, and best of all, is a non-smoker.

As a final note, check out this cool hack by Jonathan Wight. Warning: it’s a bit technical, but the movies definitely do impress :)

Developer Spotlight: The Omni Group

Before we begin, allow me to apologize for the gap in articles. I’ve been away for several extended periods in the past month, and likely will be until November, so please bear with us while we do the best we can to get back on track. If you’ll recall, we touched upon Martian Technology and their Slingshot file synchronization application. This installation of Developer Spotlight, we’re going to look at a company with an impressive library of applications in its roster: The Omni Group.

Product Spotlight: Rogue Amoeba’s Fission 1.0
Posted at September 22, 2006 6:27 am by Colin in AppleTalk | 8 Comments »

Rogue Amoeba, the makers audio software such as Audio Hijack Pro and AirTunes, released a new application today: Fission. It’s the audio editor you’ve been waiting for (or at least I have).

Fission is a streamlined audio editor that allows you to edit files in MP3, AAC, Apple Lossless and AIFF with no re-encoding, so your audio stays crisp and sharp. It’s got a bunch of other cool features too. My thoughts after a hands-on with Fission after the jump.

Product Release: Ambrosia Rolls Redline Out the Door
Posted at September 21, 2006 8:47 pm by Colin in AppleTalk | 7 Comments »

Ambrosia Software finally released their long-awaited, much-anticipated racing game Redline today. Fans of the Rochester, NY company (such as myself) have been waiting for literally years, with the appropriate amounts of bated breath, of course. We’ll see whether it becomes a smash-hit classic like Escape Velocity or Pop-pop, or if it fades into obscurity like Chiral or Avara.
