Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences

Welcome to the Biomedical Sciences Program (BIMS)

The Biomedical Sciences Program offers a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Sciences Degree that prepares students for professional careers related to human or animal health and safety.

This program is a unique blend of course work and experiences that gives students a broad conceptual framework while allowing them to focus on applied biomedical sciences. The General University Requirements provide students with solid intellectual, cultural and ethical foundations. All Biomedical Sciences students then take a series of Biomedical Sciences Core Requirements. Students then complete courses chosen from one of three specific degree options based on their career interests:

  • Forensic Science Option for the student who plans a career that will use scientific methods and techniques in law enforcement or other legal investigations. This option provides the science student with basic background in criminal justice and rules of evidence.
  • Pre-Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) Option for the student interested in clinical laboratory science (formerly called medical technology) including obtaining national CLS certification. Clinical laboratory scientists work and consult with physicians and others to gather, analyze, and interpret clinical laboratory data.
  • Pre-Professional Option for the student who plans to continue his or her education in a professional school to become a…

    • Pharmacist
    • Physical Therapist
    • Physician, Allopathic (M.D.) or Osteopathic (D.O.)
    • Physician Assistant

Although the Biomedical Sciences Program does not offer a graduate degree, it does offer Graduate Courses in support of other Graduate Programs in the College of Science and Technology.
