About the Boat

Alex’s last boat was built in 2007, by renowned French architects Finot Conq, and was designed specifically for Alex’s style of solo round the world racing. The boat was one of the most powerful in its class and during the 2007 Barcelona World Race broke the world monohull 60’ distance record, which Alex already held, and then went onto to take 2nd place in the first edition of this double handed round the world race.

In 2010 Alex purchased a new boat, which had already competed in and finished The Vendee Globe. Built to an even more powerful specification, this new IMOCA 60 was launched in May 2010 after undergoing a comprehensive 4 month refit. The new HUGO BOSS racing yacht, designed by Juan Kouyoumdjian, is significantly more powerful than any other vessels in her class. She has been tailored specifically to meet the needs of her skipper Alex Thomson and built to sail solo around the world. The look and colouring of the yacht have changed from the former HUGO BOSS with the port side now white and the starboard side black.

The boat has been redesigned and optimised for sailing for one man, and will allow Alex to compete at the very front of his class in the coming years.
