Worship and Learning

Worship

St. Paul’s holds several worship services during the week.

On Sunday mornings, services are held at 8:15 am and 10:45 am. Sunday school classes and adult forums are held from 9:30 am – 10:30 am.

St. Paul’s also holds “Sundays at 6″ services on third Sunday of the month. This service is a pastor-led, casual, modern, and music-oriented communion service. The offering given at the service is food items for the IVOC. Following the service, a light supper is served for anyone who wants to stay. There is no need to sign up for the supper.

If you are just learning about St. Paul’s, we would love to have you join us for a visit. If you would like to learn a bit more about our worship services, you can find answers to a lot of your questions right here.

Choirs

For those who like to sing, we offer choirs for four different age groups:  Cherub Choir (grades K-2), Red Angels Choir (grades 3-6), Youth Choir (grades 7-12) and Chancel Choir (post-high school).

Cherub Choir

spacer Cherub Choir (grades K-2) rehearses Wednesday nights from 6:30 pm-7:00 pm throughout the school year.  In their rehearsals, Cherub Choir members work on developing singing skills while deepening their faith as they learn anthems, hymns, and liturgy.  This half hour of rehearsal time buzzes with activity as singers move to music, play instruments, and enjoy musical games designed to strengthen musicianship.  Singers also learn parts of the liturgy so that they can participate fully in worship.  The Cherub Choir sings about eight times a year, usually at the 10:45 service.  View the 2011-2 choir schedule here.

Red Angels Choir

spacer Red Angels Choir (grades 3-6) rehearses Wednesday nights from 7:00 pm-7:45 pm throughout the school year.  These 45-minute rehearsals are packed with learning as choir members prepare anthems, liturgy, and hymns for services.   Singers also work on developing vocal technique, following a conductor, and learning to read choral music.  The anthems they prepare provide a springboard for Christian education within the rehearsal as texts are discussed and related to the lectionary or to the season of the church year.   In addition to singing, Red Angels members have had the opportunity to learn to play handbells during their rehearsals.  Although this is a hard-working group, there is time for laughter and fun activities during their rehearsals.  The Red Angels Choir sings about ten anthems a year, usually at the 10:45 service.

Both the Cherub Choir and Red Angels Choir are directed by Mrs. Priscilla Landis. If your child is interested in joining a children’s choir, please contact Priscilla via email at childrenschoirsspacer stpaulstelfordspacer org  (childrenschoirsspacer stpaulstelfordspacer org)

Youth Choir

Youth choir (grades 7-12) rehearses Wednesday nights from 7:40 pm – 8:00 pm throughout the school year.  During our rehearsals we spend time singing and learning about hymns, liturgy and anthems appropriate to the church season.  The Youth Choir assists with leading worship several times a year and is directed by Kristine Fosbenner, St. Paul’s Director of Music.

If you are interested in joining the youth choir, please contact Kris via email at musicdirectorspacer stpaulstelfordspacer org  (musicdirectorspacer stpaulstelfordspacer org)   or by work telephone at 215-723-8981.

Chancel Choir

Chancel Choir is a volunteer group consisting of 20 dedicated singers.  The choir sings each Sunday, September through the second week of June and rehearses on Thursday evenings from 7:30pm to 9:00pm.  Our goal is to praise Father, Son and Holy Spirit through music that is synchronized with the liturgical calendar.

Repertoire performed is in a wide variety of musical styles from classic choral literature, spirituals, and hymn variations to Twentieth Century vocal harmonization.  We have performed works by Gustov Holst, Randall Thompson, John Rutter, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Franz Joseph Haydn, George Frederick Handel, Johann Sebastian Bach and other illustrious composers.

Our singers are from all walks of life: bakers, teachers, crane operators, retired pastors, store managers, etc. They all have one thing in common a love of singing to the glory of God.
