Yesterday, Nicki Minaj and Ricky Martin stopped by GMA to discuss their role as the newest spokespeople for the M.A.C. Viva Glam campaign. While I am currently off the Nicki train due to her performance at the Grammy’s*, I’m enjoyed watching this video of her and Ricky where they give some background into the campaign and photoshoot. I stopped by my local M.A.C. store yesterday and one of the artists showed me the pink shade [...]

Monday Motivation: When You Believe

Over the weekend, I, like everyone else, was completely stunned and saddened to hear about the passing of Whitney Houston. Her voice, her smile, her perseverance…All things that somehow made me stand a little taller and sing (in my own key) a little louder. This weekend, I had my own little sing-a-long of a host of Whitney tunes and decided that I would pick one for today’s Monday Motivation. It’s after 1p CST and I have [...]

Monday Motivation: What’s Your Mission Statement?

Mon, 6 Feb 2012 | Published in KB's Journey, Uncategorized

While reading Inc.com this morning, I stumbled across a post titled “A Powerful (Mission) Statement,” which focused on the powerful and motivating mission statement for Holstee, a Brooklyn-based company. Although the words are meant to describe the company’s motto, it also embodies a group of people and ideals. The company actually sells their manifesto on a poster, and has been surprised (but not really) at how it has resonated with people. This got me thinking…What would [...]

The Perfect Hot Pink Bag

Last week, I spied the cutest and brightest hot pink bag on the floor of my co-worker’s office. Instantly smitten with the item, I made a note to later ask her about it. In true KB fashion though, I ended up forgetting about the bag until I stumbled across this tweet: Could it be? Did they have the scoop on my bag obsession? I clicked the link and VOILA…It was THE bag! It turns out [...]

Are You Focused in Your Giving?

Tue, 31 Jan 2012 | Published in Charitable Living

This week, I am obsessed with “focus.” Mainly, I’m obsessed with strengthening mine and learning to be more effective with my time and to-dos. And, for me, the key to this is focus. I’ve spent way too much of my life being a mutli-tasker, and frankly, it has totally burned me out. I feel like a spaz more often than not, and the problematic avoidance of that overwhelmed feeling has led me to the point [...]

I Dare You to Dream

“You can find your greatest cause in your greatest failure.” – Pastor Matthew Barnett Last week, I had the opportunity to listen to Pastor Matthew Barnett tell the story of his journey as the co-founder of The Dream Center in Los Angeles. The Dream Center is a church that never sleeps nor closes, and instead offers residents (and everyone else ministry) around the clock. More than just a church, The Dream Center is a vital [...]

I Love Pinterest!

Even though I love Twitter, I can honestly say that I’ve never had an official obsession with the site. In fact, I always found pride in the fact that I’ve never really been officially obsessed with any social network. But that, my friends, was before Pinterest. When I first received an invitation to check it out, I dabbled around with it but didn’t really take the time to explore and get all into it. However, [...]

My baby, The Red Pump Project, is a finalist for Best Cause Campaign in the Inaugural Black Celebrity Giving Awards. While we’re technically a nonprofit, our call to encourage women to rock red pumps to represent the strength and courage of women affected by HIV/AIDS ramps up every year around National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day (March 10th). I don’t know who nominated us but I love what they submitted: I would like to [...]

Challenge Update: Not Quite 53…

Wed, 4 Jan 2012 | Published in KB's Journey, Volunteer Opps

Today is January 4th, otherwise known as my mother’s birthday and my deadline for completing my 53-hour service challenge. Well, the GREAT news is that in 3 weeks, I was able to log 43 hours of community service (yay!), but I didn’t hit my goal of 53 (not-so-yay). However, I am not a quitter so I’m extending my challenge through MLK Weekend which is perfect because Chicago Cares is hosting their annual MLK Serve-a-Thon on [...]
