I am writing to share information about a vacancy in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at UCF. Please excuse cross-postings. Please also share this information with any interested graduate students who are about to graduate.

I.               The Department of Writing and Rhetoric at the University of Central Florida is seeking an instructor to teach primarily online upper-division writing courses. This is a 9-month renewable appointment, contingent on available funding, with the possibility of an additional summer appointment. The load will be four writing courses each fall/spring; service duties are also expected, and may include curriculum development and program assessment. Although the teaching assignment may occasionally include first-year composition, it will consist primarily of upper-division coursework, most likely in such areas as writing in and about the sciences, writing about health and medicine, and/or rhetoric and civic engagement. Depending on the instructor’s qualifications, the teaching assignment could also occasionally include courses in the department’s Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing. The position will begin in August 2012.  

Minimum Requirements:  Applicants must have a master’s degree (e.g., M.A. or M.S.) relevant to the position from an accredited institution at the time of hire as well as experience teaching writing at the college level.

Preferences:  Preferred candidates will have a relevant terminal degree, experience teaching upper-division writing courses, training and experience teaching online courses, interest in curricular innovation in writing and rhetorical studies, and a willingness to participate in ongoing and collaborative professional development.
