Bikerowave, your local local not for profit bicycle repair and teaching cooperative is launching a series of classes. Have you ever wanted to learn how to put your chain back on with a stick, true a wheel with a rock, or fix your chain with a nail? Well, all that and more can be taught, to anyone. If you are mechanically inclined enough to change the batteries in your remote control, you can be taught to work on a bike.
We will be kicking off this awesome series of classes with a “How to ride to work-or anywhere for that matter,” class on Sunday March 18th from 3-5:30pm. The next week, Sunday March 25th we are proud to offer a “How to fix your bike even if you don’t know a bottom bracket from a brake cable” class. Again 3-5:30pm.
All classes are FREE but we have limited space. If you would like to attend, please RSVP with an email to bikerowaveclasses@gmail.com, with your name and the date you are attending in the subject line (that’s the bar that appears before the main body of the email) and we will save you a seat.  Thanks, and remember, Bikerowave can always be contacted through our website bikerowave.org , or via phone, during business hours. We are located one block east of Centinella Ave on Venice Blvd in beautiful Mar Vista.

Ever thought to yourself, “Gee, self, I wish there was a way for me to help others and promote cycling” ??

Now you can!

Just like Hanako (pictured) you can learn things, fix things, and help others.  Sometimes burritos, pizza, and/or cake are even involved.  At this point your belly is probably rumbling after all of this tasty talk, but you aren’t sure if you have the bicycle savvy to teach others.  If you don’t, we’ll train you and teach you and impart our generous wisdom of bicycles and bacons unto you.  So, fill out the Volunteer Form and strut your bad self into the shop and let us tell you what’s what (on a bicycle).  I can’t wait to bump burritos and/or cut cake with you.

In response to limited volunteer availability, Bikerowave is shortening its Sunday hours for the cold seasons.  We will be open 11am – 2pm on Sundays.  Come and see us then!  All other days remain unchanged.

The Bikerowave will be taking a big day off this coming Sunday October 9th to ride to CicLAvia in and around downtown LA.  You should come too!  If you’d like to join us for a ride from the shop meeting at 8 am and leaving at 8:30 sharp, please do!  We’ll join up with cyclists from the Culver City Bike Coalition and continue on down to where all the riding will be magically free of cars; and bikes, skateboards, trikes, wagons and skates are where it’s at.  It should be a moderate paced ride and it should be about 30+ miles of riding total (round trip), so keep that in mind.  We’ll have a booth set up downtown right in the thick of it at 1st and Spring, helping folks with minor repairs, air and good cheer.  Bikeside will be right next door, getting some up-and-coming politicians to experience and understand how important cycling is for this city.

If you want to join us for the ride, please have your bike running well–we don’t plan to open the shop for any repairs that morning and will hit the pavement at 8:30 sharp!

So:  Go to CicLAvia.  Ride your bike, wear your sunscreen, have a picnic, toss the frisbee, bring your kids, and enjoy.  If you haven’t done this, get some friends together and do it.  It’s remarkable to see, feel, and revel in a city free of cars.  Even if right now, it’s just one day, every…
