Elaine Bernard is Executive Director of the Labor and Worklife Program at Harvard Law School and the Harvard Trade Union Program. A life long union member and activist, Bernard brings a refreshing balance of humor and passion for worker rights to her talks and teaching. She has conducted courses on a wide variety of topics for unions, community groups, universities and government departments. Her current research and teaching interests are in the areas of international comparative labor movements, union leadership and governance, and the role of unions in promoting civil society, democracy and economic justice. Some of her talks and publications include: "From Heroes to Zeros: the War on Unions and the Public Sector," "Lighting Fires vs Putting Them Out: Creating a Union Organizing Culture," "Why Unions Matter to Everyone," "Labor Rights as Human Rights," "Social Unionism: Labor as a Political Force," "Public Sector Workers and the Creation of Public Value," and "Creating the Future: Strategic Planning and Strategic Choice for Unions."

Arun Gupta is a founder of The Indypendent and The Occupied Wall Street Journal and was formerly the international news editor of The Guardian Newsweekly. He has visited more than 30 occupations in 21 states since October covering the Occupy Wall Street movement nationwide for Salon, The Guardian, The Progressive, In These Times, Alternet and other publications. Since the fall of 2011 he has helped set up Occupy newspapers in cities including Chicago, Portland and Tampa Bay. Gupta is a regular commentator on Democracy Now!, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, Al Jazeera and Russian Television. He is writing a book on the decline of American Empire for Haymarket Books.

Chris Hedges is a cultural critic and author who was a foreign correspondent for nearly two decades for The NewYork Times, The Dallas Morning News, The Christian Science Monitor and National Public Radio. He reported from Latin America, the Middle East, Africa and Prize for Explanatory Reporting for The New York Times coverage of global terrorism, and he received the 2002 Amnesty International Global Award for Human Rights Journalism. Hedges is the author of the bestsellers American Fascists: The Christian Right and the War on America, Empire of Illusion: The End of Literacy and the Triumph of Spectacle and Death of the Liberal Class. He was a National Book Critics Circle finalist for his book War Is a Force That Gives Us Meaning. He is a Senior Fellow at The Nation Institute and writes an online column for the web site Truthdig. He has taught at Columbia University, New York University, Princeton University and the University of Toronto. He currently teaches inmates at a correctional facility in New Jersey.

John Holloway is a Professor of Sociology in the Instituto de Ciencias Sociales y Humanidades of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla in Mexico, his home since 1991. His work is associated with the Zapatista movement, and has also been taken up by some intellectuals associated with the piqueteros in Argentina; Abahlali base Mjondolo movement in South Africa and the Anti-Globalization and Occupy Movements in Europe and North America. His publications include Crack Capitalism (Pluto, 2010), Change the World Without Taking Power (Pluto, 2005), Zapatista!: Rethinking Revolution in Mexico (co-editor with Eloína Peláez, Pluto, 1998) and Global Capital, National State and The Politics of Money (co-editor with Werner Bonefeld, 1994).

Moderator: Frances Fox Piven is Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Sociology at City University of New York Graduate Center. She is the author or co-author of Regulating the Poor, Poor People's Movements, Why Americans Don't Vote,Challenging Authority: How Ordinary People Change America and Whose Afraid of Frances Fox Piven. She has participated in protest movements over the last forty-five years, and has recently earned her notoriety from Glenn Beck.
