Top Nine Places to Watch the Big Game

Written by: Michael Cohen
Asking about plans for the new year is so last year. Now everybody is asking “what’s the plan for Super Bowl?” Well, if there’s no invitation to the Hennessy Black Penthouse in the mail and $3,000 seems a bit steep for the real thing at Land Shark Stadium, then these sporting hotspots are the best bet for game night when the 44th Super Bowl arrives in town February 7.

ONE / Clevelander Hotel
After a multi-million-dollar renovation, The Clevelander is still party central. Enjoy 50 HD flat-screen TVs, plus additional projectors, for the big game. Designated partying spots include the C-Level Rooftop Terrace with outdoor cabana beds and couches, the classic Pool Patio and the indoor Game On Sports Bar. Try the Clevelander’s famous 120-ouncer, a massive drink perfect for groups, and finger foods to balance the buzz. Hint: the Taco Varieties (chicken, steak, shrimp, tofu) are to die for.

TWO / Lucky Strike Lanes
It’s not about the pins on this day, it’s about the bowl — the Super Bowl. A local hotspot every weekend, this alley to the stars will be amped up with nearly a dozen flat-screens and a six-foot projector screen for guests to kick it tableside or hang out in the banquettes, while nibbling on house favorites like the mac-n-cheese balls.

THREE / Fritz & Franz Bierhaus
It may look like Germany’s Oktoberfest here at this hotspot known for its traditional German and Austrian fare, but this bierhaus is smack dab in Downtown Coral Gables. Grab some schnitzels, sausages and steins o’ beer while enjoying the unique Euro-sports bar ambiance and keeping an eye on the game at every angle.

FOUR / Dan Marino’s Fine Food Spirits
Although Marino’s former squad won’t be playing, there’s no reason not to stop by this football player’s take on the classic restaurant (Houston’s meets ESPN Zone). Here, locals from South Miami don’t guzzle beer, they prefer spirits and the finer side of dining, even if it is while watching the football.

FIVE / Fontainebleau Resort Gotham Steak
In the mood for slightly swankier surroundings for game night? Look no further than Gotham Steak. Sip a martini and order up one of Alfred Portale’s ribeye steak sandwiches “Philly style” or a round of lobster rolls and take in the action on one of the three 42-inch TVs in the bar area that will be broadcasting the game.

SIX / Quarterdeck Seafood Bar
If any place on Miami Beach embodies the term “where locals go,” it’s here. Gather around the bar, where at any given moment, shots are making the rounds; or slide into one of the bar’s no frills booths and keep the draft beer and chicken fingers coming.

SEVEN / The Democratic Republic Of Beer
This best new spot for the haute hipster is home to 400 bottles of beer on the wall from more than 50 different countries. If navigating through these fields of barley seems like a daunting task, no worries. The DRB will be running their happy hour special all day where guests can choose from a pre-selected variety of Caribbean, Asian, USA Microbrew or former British Colonial six-packs, all for a mere $20.

EIGHT / Hotel Astor
Looking for a non-traditional Super Bowl party? Check out chef Douglas Rodriguez’s new venture at the Hotel Astor, appropriately named D. Rodriguez Cuba, for an entirely different kind of pig skin at this Super Bowl Pig-Roast. Not in the mood for pork? Opt for this cooking star’s croquettes and empanadas while watching the game on monster flat-screen TVs while downing Sangria.

NINE / Dean’s Gold
What more could exemplify a testosterone-filled day than beer, chicks and sports? Formerly Solid Gold, this upscale gentleman’s club provides a lot for male counterparts to feast their eyes on during a commercial break.
