Vice Chancellors Enterprise Scholarship

In the current economic climate, you may have already considered starting your own business after you graduate. Leeds Metropolitan believes it is important to support entrepreneurial graduates with a determination to succeed and a realistic business idea and we are particularly keen to assist in the vital and often challenging early stages of start-up.

To help you launch your business we have set up the Vice Chancellors Enterprise Scholarship founded by our Vice Chancellor, Professor Susan Price, and supported by alumni and friends of our University.

Entries are now open and will close on 16th April 2012

How will it help you?

If your application for a VCs Enterprise Scholarship is successful you will receive up to £3000 worth of funding to help with essential start-up support including (but not limited to):

  • Hot desk and meeting space at our business incubatorQU2 and Old Broadcasting House Enterprise Hub
  • Equipment and marketing costs at launch
  • City centre business address
  • Entry to Business start-up workshops/boot camp
  • Dedicated business advisors and mentors
  • Work shadowing and placements with successful early stage businesses
  • Profiling and networking opportunities

Who can apply?

How to apply

There is a two-stage application process for the Vice Chancellors Enterprise Scholarship.

Stage 1

Firstly, applicants must complete the Vice Chancellors Enterprise Scholarship application form before the closing date of Monday 16th April 2012.

Stage 2

Applicants with the strongest business case will make it through to the second round, where they will be invited to give a ten-minute pitch about their business idea to the selection panel on the afternoon of Wednesday 2nd May. Please note if you are unable to attend the pitch interview you will be unable to apply for the scholarship.

Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 4th May. Funds for the scholarship will be released to Enterprise Scholars towards the end of May and Scholars will have access to all the scholarship benefits from June.

The agreement

If the application is approved:

The Student/Graduate agrees to:

  • Devote proper time and energy to the business throughout the Scholarships time period
  • Attend all appropriate workshops, presentations and events
  • Attend regular advice sessions with your Business Adviser / Mentor
  • Produce interim reports as required
  • Produce a business plan with financial forecasts
  • Act as an enterprise champion, helping the promotion of Business Start-Up at Leeds Metropolitan University and Graduate Entrepreneurship Project to others
  • Attenduniversity donor thank you events

Business Start-Up and Queen Square Business Quarter agree to:

  • Organise presentations and lectures on business related subjects
  • Provide general business support throughout the year
  • Provide useful information on business and self-employment
  • Provide use of a business address, free meeting space and hot-desking facilities (some restrictions may apply)
  • Provide one years free membership of Leeds Chamber of Commerce
  • Provide free networking events and other additional opportunities to promote your business

I understand that the Scholarship will cease immediately if, in the opinion of Business Start-Up at Leeds Metropolitan University, I fail to pursue my business or self-employment properly.
